WAAAAAAAAGH- Orkses all da way!
Shaken, not stirred- Eldar refinement for the win!
As we are all well aware, the Holidays are coming up, and it's time to start thinking about what to do with gift money and what to ask for under the tree. Now, I know that this isn't always "in the spirit" but this is the only time that I have a shot at getting most of an army for free. So... I want some help. I want to make a fast army, and I want a potent army, and I'd like to keep prices down. SO:
Should I chose a crazy Ork Biker Mob, with the special character and a ton of nasty Bike Nobz units and tons of Dakka-killy-deff?
Or Should I go with a sleek looking Biel Tan force- something I've dreamt of painting since I got into the hobby?
Remember, voting criteria is-
Cost (most points per dollar)
they're both pretty brutal when played right with certain lists. eldar are probably cheaper unless you can find a bunch of aobr ork sprues. eldar are more mobile and finesse'y but orks can just swamp the board with numbers and force. lastly, if you're load and bellowy, than orks be for you; if you're more the reserved type, then eldar are up your alley.
so really, it's just personal preference but they both play/act completely different from each other.
I voted Eldar, simply because it means you'll have to buy less. That aside, the decision could feasibly go either way.
I voted Orks, and speedfreaks are the coolest Orks 'coz they go fastest!
Good luck with what ever you chose dude.
I AM BOOMER!
I have an Eldar Army and i was starting a "Speed Freaks" army as i think the new ork bikes, trukk and battlewagon look fantastic; however, Death Guard interested me more and now im trying to sell the beginnings of my Ork army. (Codex, 3 New Bikers, 1 Buggy and a Nob with Waaah bannger).
May the "Nurgley Goodness" protect you!
Orkseez are smarta, harda an' fasta!
I'd choose orks just for the fun factor and converion options.
Bigger. Better. Waaagh.
So, it would seem that Eldar are edging out the Orks by a slight margin. When it comes down to criteria, you are all telling me:
Cost- There's less to buy for the Eldar; does this mean "cheaper altogether" or "less to paint"? I've borrowed an Ork dex to look at the units, and it seems that an Ork on a bike is still points-pricey. What are we looking at for a Shining Spear, the Eldar flying troops? And when it comes to buying units, Eldar units can be expensive, but I'm also looking to convert Cybork Nobz on Bikes.
Playability- everyone says that the armies are equal. I am used to finess-y armies, so the Eldar aren't too much of a challenge. However, I can see them being at a disadvantage in the last turns. Neither army has the manpower to hold objectives, as anything that sits still will be shot to pieces. Orks, at the very least, can head into close combat on the last turns to clear objectives. Could eldar remove a unit from an objective in the last turns of combat?
Fun- I'm holding that the Orks would be fun to play, since I do love being loud and agressive. Shouting Waaagh! during assault, and Dakka-Dakka-Dakka! during shooting phases makes me grin like a Grot on Fungus-brew. Eldar are certainly more fun to paint though, they're a chance to use super shiny gloss paint and their vehicles look like flying sports-cars.
Perhaps I'll make a list for both and see what it comes down to. Any tactical pointers for the Eldar?
I voted Orks. And when you say "Speed Freak" do you mean a nob biker list or a trukk heavy list? A nob biker list would like less than 20 models and I could really see going to town when converting each biker. Speaking of converting you'll need to have some descent skillz as you'll be making the biker bosses yourself. So if your into customization and converting you should GO GREEN. Waaagh!
My award winning Orky tale
Eldar. they're wisdom is infinite.
From what i have been reading over at 40kOnline, eldar got smacked hard in 5th ed. sure their vehicles got a teeny bit stronger but taking a falcon as a mobile heavy weapons transport is no longer viable. you put your precious cargo in and utterly waste all of the weapons. jetbikes and vipers also took a hit on being able to effectively move and shoot without standing still or being easily engaged by the enemy. Harlies also took a big hit as well.
there are some things that have started to shine though, "seer councils of doom" are now popular as are scorpions and units in wave serpents.
another thing tho think about is WYSIWYG. eldar do not have many of their vehicle upgrades included in their boxes so if you want to play in a tourney you will have to make your own or order FW eldar vehicle upgrade kits.
