A couple of painting tutorials caught my eye, so I thought I'd better sign up.
Now that I've had a good look around, this is a really ace place
Enough of the introductions, because I need your input.
You see, I play Iron Warriors and Tau.
The Iron Warriors are sitting in the cupboard for the future, because I can't stand the new chaos codex (and the one cheesy configuration it promotes) and I'm playing Tau a heck of a lot.
To be honest, I'd like a small 1,500pts casual army to play with. Tau require lots of micromanagement and I'd like to get stuck into close combat for a change.
So what do you think would be a good complimentary force to the Tau, that I could just chuck in a small carry case whenever I wasn't worried about playing competitively?
and that is different to Tau -how?
Heh, true. I'd go for Orks. They're simple to play, but they have lots of variety so if want to get more involved with them later, you can take the army to new heights. Also, you can keep most of your Ork army in a small box, plastic models are tough. I play Tau and Ork and I approve of this message.
I would just go for the army you think looks good really if you're thinking of starting an Army you don't like then what's the point ?.
It also depends on what play style you like to play.
I would suggest Chaos Daemons: Flamboyant, in-your-face warlords of close combat whose deployment methods turn the battlefield into utter mayhem, and they are horrible when trying to out-shoot the opponent..
I think none of that sounds like Tau.

Well Drazhar, I'm often torn between what looks cool and what would actually win games.
It's the stigma of a competitive player I'm afraid
IG would go great with Tau fluff wise. Not the best hand to hand but a step up from your fish men. The amount of bodies you could bring would be competitive and fluffy and the opportunities for mods would be endless. You could just have and IG allie or use GW's auxiliary rules.
Of course this is coming from an IG player. Orks would be cool to. Not as easy to see the relation but I liked to think of my Orks more like the bad merc aliens in "The 5th Element" and less like the WHFB Orcs that most other people seem to think of.
I can only build 1 effective list with them...and it's beardy as hell (dual lash prince, oblits-a-go-go). Anything else seems to get outgunned and out manouvered.
I'm currently liking the look of:
Codex Space Marines (not sure which chapter though), Deathwing (all infantry), Mechanised Imperial Guard (with Pig Iron heads!) or Tyranids.
Also, because I'm pressed for time with my new job, I need an army I can pretty much just spray (kinda like this shuttle -below), then paint the little details on.
Raptor space marines are tempting because they're a drab olive green with brown bits, which should be easy to paint.
Can't say the same for the Deathwing unfortunately.
Imperial guard could look good sprayed. Kind of torn between the Rebel Kolony Heads, Militia Kolony Heads at the moment. One screams 'chaos renegade militia', the other feels more...brotherhood of NOD. What do you think?
Tyranids would be easy to spray! Dark Purple, lightpurple hgihlight , lightly dust with cream colour perhaps, paint claws, etc, done!
As ever, input, feedback and better suggestions are appreciated.
