So I'm trying to rope someone into a 15,000pt (per side) game. I'll be using a combination of Marines, Eldar, and IG while he'd be using pure Marines. To date, the single largest force I've brought is 7,000 points.
So how about everyone else?
Nights Justice Space Marines
Eldar Eth Kariel Craftworld
Spear of Kurnous - High Elf Expeditionary Army
If its not limited to one person being on each side, it was a 70,000+ point game. One side was 12 people each with roughly 2k points of Space Marines, plus a warhound. The other side was 15 people with as many tyranids as could fill the deploymenty zone (12'X3'), plenty of them carnifexes and hive tyrants, and lots of gaunts, all of them packed into the deployment zone base to base. Also all the tyranids had without number, and the tyrants and carnifexes redeployed as well when they died.
There was a separate game of 3 VS 3 with 6 kill teams fighting for control of 8 objectives, for every one of the 4 objectives the SM were guarding that the tyranids controlled at the beginning of the turn, they got a pie-plate of gaunts, and for each of the 4 the tyranids were guarding that the SM controlled, we got a lance strike from orbit.
There were other bonuses for things being controlled by the kill teams, so each turn was different, it was an epic game.
8 Turns in, it ended, and the marines ended up winning, because their objective was to survive. By the end of the game we had a broken down titan and one SM chapter master with one wound left in the middle of the board (the chapter master was mine ), a small entrenchment in one corner that was mostly in combat with hormagaunts and stealers and would have lost in another turn, and the other corner had a bunch of marines holding ruins and bunkers and the only reason that it hadn't been overrun (and wouldn't have been for another 2-3 turns) is because it had loads of devastators and demolisher cannons and we were focusing the orbital lance strikes (which we got 4 of most turns cuz the SM were winning with the kill teams) over in that corner to keep the tyranids back.
It was a crazy game, with lots of insane heroic acts on the part of space marines (like my chapter master with one wound left, who had killed 2 hive tyrants and a carnifex in CC by the end of it), and lots of horde-crushing-kill-everything-OMG acts of anti-heroism by the tyranids.
P.S. - The Warhound, armed with a Plasma Blastgun and a Vulcan Megabolter, was next to useless, as it missed alot and basically just took up space. The one usefull thing it did was kick a Hive Tyrant several inches so that my Space Marines, who were deployed right next to it, could finish off the Hive Tyrant they were fighting before killing the one it had kicked as well.
I can one up that. At the midnight release of 5th Ed. rule release my local hobby store held a big game. WE played 4th ed rules til mid night and then switched over to 5th ed rules. The game was simple good vs. evil, 67,000pts per side. We had a grand total of 17 titans, 20 superheavies of every type, and some 150 tanks on the field at all times. The game got to turn 3 but by then it was about 4 in the morning and all but 2 titans had died. So we called it a draw. INSANE. I actually got to use the full 24 foot range of the basilik's indirect fire. The table was shaped in an U but straightened out it was a 4' by 55' foot table.
We're going to need more men, lots more.
the biggest I have played is 10k per side with me and one other guy... Was nuts.... guants with endless swarm got annoying... i brought 7k worth of eldar and 3k worth of marines for the fight, and he used alomost all bugs with some chaos demons... SOOO MANY DEMON PRINCES!!
the most iv ever played at the moment is 5000 per side. My 2000 of Guard and 2000 of chaos with my mates 1000 against my other mates 5000 of marines. it was my first apocalypse and it inspired me to build up my IG. Iv got 20 out of 27 vehicles now for 5000 of IG, gonna need a big table!!
We had a 90,000+ point game at my local store once. It used 6 or 7 tables, and there were multiple battles going on as some of the tables were connected and some were not. One of the smaller combined tables had an objective on it that let the team holding it throw down an orbital bombardment on the main battle tables. It was pretty cool to have 3 separate battlegrounds, a main and two minor, and the minor tables objectives were quite important as they allowed tangible benefits every round (the other game rapid redeployment). It added quite a bit more strategy to apoc, as you had to divide your combined forces between the 3 battles, only the main table objectives counted for points at the end, but ignoring the smaller tables would allow your opponent to unleash some devastating effects.
The same store had "Tanksgiving" where I think there were over 60,000 points of just vehicles in one game.
