I'm pretty new, and I know there are a lot of mistakes I want to avoid. So, are there any regrets any of you have had throughout you warhammer (40k or F experience? Im not talking little paint mistakes, I mean mistakes you really wish you could fix.

Shiny new army syndrome. Planning on a new army before even having your first army half completed. (I did this twice-what a waste of money).
Currently play: 4000+ of Black Legion
I think my biggest mistake was selling about eight 1500-3000pts armies when I went to college, assuming I would never use them. I dream of the Apocalypse games I could have if I'd kept the models!
I've come to realise that GW can be more of a long term hobby, that will probably come and go. I can see myself getting bored of the game for periods, but the stories and fluff always drags me back!
I also regret not giving painting a real go earlier. It takes time but makes the hobby sooo much better.
Good topic idea by the way.
Starting that ork army... cost me a lot and i never even finished it, rotting in some box some place these days.

Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.
Voor alle nederlanders:
The Dutch Legion
I regret not getting into the game sooner, not officially choosing which army I want to play, and wasting my money on models I know I will never use.
buying models on e-bay/second hand
got 4 crisis suits with totally pointless weapon load outs that have been proxied for years as other load outs as the weapons were platic cemented on. if you do go second hand, undercoated plastic or metal models only
less hate more kittens
built a 2k skaven army before my first fantasy game; played my first LotR game and haven't been back to fantasy; lotr gameplay suits me a lot more than wfb,
also lotr being the first books i read, so i'm partial to its fluff more as well.
just starting to get into warmachine, wondering why i didn't do so sooner.
... Ever letting my buddy borrow my marines... Getting rid of all of my bretonians and never even putting a brush stroke on them, and getting rid of my chaos marines ....
But those are things of the past so ... meh ... However now I am wishing that I would have really started painting a few years ago at least... and i really wish that I would have based all of these damned marines before I primed them ...
Slaanesh, god of the beer goggles
Buying entire armies in one fell swoop.
I could never muster the will to paint them and they inevitably remained undercoated for years (some over a decade).
These days I alternate between Eldar and Warriors of Chaos, buying squads or regiments one at a time and painting them before buying again. That way I never get bored of painting and don't spend so much on shite I'll never use.
Mine is related to painting but on a largish scale, basically I was too lazy to want to paint all the little trims of my chaos marines and shaved them off, making most of them look absolutely terrible, and now when I look ay my batch of new marines with shiney trims I feel bad
