Hey guys so i think I am going to run a doubles tournament for WHFB, and I was wondering, how have doubles tournaments you have either hosted/played in in the past gone? What rules were there on partners, and stuff like that? Did both players have separate turns, or they both went simultaneously?
I was thinking on maybe limiting partner selection to three separate categories;good, evil, and neutral. This would only be for partner selection; in the tournament, you have an equal opportunity to fight any opponents, regardless of their alignment.
Good- Dwarves, High Elves, Empire, Bretonnia
Neutral- Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts, Wood Elves, Lizardmen, Orcs & Goblins (These armies aren't likely to ally themselves with anyone else, that why they're neutral [Eg. it would be less likely that Dark Elves and Tomb Kings would fight together against a common enenmy, as opposed to Dark Elves and Warriors of Chaos.] I suppose one could argue the case for Lizardmen being good, but whatever, this isn't what my thread is about)
Evil- Daemons, Beasts, and Warriors of Chaos, Dark Elves, and Skaven.
I think I will allow people to choose partners before hand, as it will likely be a small tournament, and it would probably be more fun that way anyway. People without partners can still show up, however, and will be matched up. This will likely lead to really good players allying themselves with really good players, but hell, if you consider a normal tournament, their are already disparities in skill level, so I don't believe I should try and regulate this by matching good player with less skilled players.
Any input would be appreciated.
I would say have people choose slips of paper out of a box, then find their partner by who has the same number. neutral armies, there are neutral/good and neutral/bad. there really is no truely neutral army in WHFB. So, the Neutral-evil armies (VC TK O&G) should be relegated to the evil box, and the neutral-good armies (WE and LM) should go to the good box. Then once everyone has their partners, run it like a normal tournament, of course, remember to have a whiteboard or something with the tourney tree to keep track of things.

Doubles tournaments can be very messy. You essentially open up your store, meeting hall, basement, etc. to twice as many people as you typically could. The other problem is that some players just don't get along unless they're ACROSS the table from each other.
I would suggest letting the players choose their own partners. All pairings should be legal, as it allows more people to get into game, but if you want to limit the pairing, you can use the allies table provided in the General's Compendium or in the LegendaryBattle pdf.
Additionally, you need to determine how you want to limit the armies. At some sizes, building 2, legal, separate armies will allow for more heroes and choices than you would have in singular force of the same value. You need to choose if you want to use any kind of special rules to account for a single or multiple generals, any kind of unit restrictions, if you want to allow for divided lists, or if both players will choose units to fill the regular limits of a combined force.
There's not a lot more that I can suggest at the moment, kinda have to get back to work.
I am new to this and having problems getting a suitable photo for my profile. I am not totally computer newcomer but pretty much so.
In addition I have just upgraded to a camera phone and have no idea about how to get those photos in to my battle reports.
I would greatly appreciate any and all assistance that any one can give.
