I just visited GW dot com and read that the rulebook is open for advance order. The site doesn't say anything about when advance ordered books arrives, so I thought maybe someone had it already. Well do you? Or if you advance ordered, when do you get it?
Ave Dominus Nox!
I know somone who has read it, but he read it at an invitation only trade convention, and he would only tell me the parts that pertained to my White Scars army. So basically, I know how bikes will work, but not much else except for what they've released.
I've seen it, just never read it. Some of the staff at GW HQ were clustered around it, but when i went over to have a look, they snapped it shut. Apparently they have to abide by a non-disclosure contract, and if i read the book and release some of the info, they could get fired
I live in your eyes
was that at WW jack? GW workers are communists, how would they be able to trace it back to them. they always do sneaky things like that, this one guy was tantalising me genestealer info, but didnt let me see.
however they did leave a staff copy of the storm of chaos book out and about one time, i guess it mattered less when the lists were mostly published already.
i think the advance order books just means u will be guaranteed one on the 28th, or mebbe a week earlier or summat

You'll never know who's read it or not. 'Tis like asking who's played the Halo 2 Beta (runs and hides with Beta disc. . . . my preciousssss. . . . .).
Nah, only the PDF from GW.

Allright. It would just be so cool to have it before everyone else.. Anyway, it will be a nice treat to get the new rulebook on the 28th, as my vacation will be over by then. I'll probably get quite unsociable when I get it, studying the book at least twelve hours a day! LOL
And there will be a big tournament in my area two weeks after it's release, so it will be FUNDAMENTAL to get into the new rules early!
Ave Dominus Nox!
i got it right here
OK, I got my grubby little (actually quite large) hands on the new and upcomming rulebook. So far most of what other people have posted in the forums is correct. However I found that a lot was let out so I'll try to fill in the gaps. Just the gaps mind you.....
Starting from the top.
So far all that has been said about sizes and terrain types is true, there are 3 sizes, Small (Gretchin, Nurglings, Rippers etc.) Standard (infantry, bikes, jump/jep packs etc) and Large (Vehicles, Monstrous Creatures, Wraithlords etc.)
Target Priority, pretty much like it has been said here, you want to shoot a target further away than the closest you need to take a Ld test. Exceptions are larger sized things further away, you can ignore a small target for a larger one further away.
This was a highly debated theme (by myself included), and it works just like in 3rd edition (the owner of the unit being shot removes the casualties as he sees fit) with one notable exception, if the number of HITs EQUAL or EXCEEDS the number of models in the target unit the SHOOTING player nominates one single model that must take a sepparate saving throw (one and only one). The owing player will then allocate the wounds (if you get two hit with plasma and 5 with bolter you can allocate to the nominated model the bolter shot).
Rapid Fire weapons
1 Shot to max distance or 2 up to 12", if it fires you cannot assault. So rapid Fire weapons either shoot or assault.
No changes 2 shots and you can't assault 1 and you can.
You can shoot and assault.
Multiple Template hit a unit, you now resolve each template in turn before placing the next.
ALWAYS BLOCK: Vehicles, Wrecked Vehicles, Monstrous Creatures and Artilery units. Grav units only block LoS if destroyed or imobilized (moving 6" or less and immobilized doesn't destroy skimmers anymore).
Close combat only block LoS up to the height of the tallest models involved, you can shoot over CC if either the target or the shooting unit is Taller than the tallest model in CC.
AP rules are exactly the same, Saving throws are unchanged as well, as is instant Death, switching off Powerfist/Claws is still legal, legitimate and pretty well explained.
Sniper rifles now do 2D6 Armour Penetration.
Rending Rifles/Catapults works as rending claws on a 6 to hit it causes one auto wound that cannot be saved, except by an Inv Sv.
Fished back from the depths of 2ed. we got INSANE BRAVERY back, you now pass ANY moral test on a double 1 regardless of modifiers.
Bikes, can Turboboost up to 24", if they do they get an INV. Sv. equal to their normal Sv. BUT in order to gain such save they must travel at least 18". Are stable platforms, can shoot a number of weapons equal to the number of riders, and can charge a different unit than the one they shot. Jetbikes work the same but can always move 6" in the assault phase in any direction.
Autopass all Ld to fire at targets further away, and can always fire two weapons.
Jump Packs no changes Jump 12" and assault 6" if in range.
Jet Packs Jump 6" and in the assault phase can always move 6".
Grav Vehicles can now end their move over dificult or impassible terrain, no test need, but they don't gain Hull down.
Vehicle weapon fire arcs are now very well explained.
Ordnance hitting a vehicle will have it's St halved if the hole on the template does not cover the vehicle (which means scatters of 2+ render it useless vs tanks).
AP1 only needs to equal AV to get a penetrating hit. However Hull dwon denies this ability (hull down superseeds all other considerations, including the Warp weapons from Wraithguard).
Hull down... a vehicle must be 50% obscured to benefit from it, each time the vehicle is hit with a penetrating hit you roll a dice on a 4+ it becomes a glancing instead.
Damage tables are a mess.... GW swung the bloody pendulum WAY WAY WAY too far.
There is a table for tables now... *****s.
So Penetrating Hits:
Moving 6" or less Crew must disembark and take a pinning test
Moving more than 6" You roll a 4+ to wound each model, make normal saving throws and take a pinning test.
Moving 6" or less AND EXPLODING/BEING DESTROYED You roll a 4+ to wound each model, make normal saving throws and take a "trapping" test(fearless troops may become trapped- works just like pinning).
Moving more than 6" AND EXPLODING/BEING DESTROYED You roll a 4+ to wound each model, make normal saving throws and take a "trapping" test you re-roll all dice that didn't come up as 4+ (75% chance of a wound right there).
Finally all those lovely habilities such as True Grit, Feel No Pain, Furious Charge etc, all come in the main rulebook with minor revisions under the Heading "General Rules".
Nice book, I liked the art, hated the neutering of transports the way it was done, I also see a few holes in the LoS section, and the shooting department.
The weapons to have in 4th will of course be shooting wepons of a rendering nature.
Hivefleet Omalancho 1/0/0 my current army
wow so white scars are uber now.
i like the move and shoot 12 inch thing, adds something to the game.
neat going back to teh 2nd ed. days and putting back the insane bravery.
I chose to believe you.. Did you advance order??i got it right here
Anyways does it say anything new about twin linked weapons? You know to make the bikers shooty again..
And what have they done to make thousand sons worth it again(their main special rule is the same as the new rapid fire rules <_< )?
Ave Dominus Nox!
err.. maybe its the fact that they can take loads of punishment. old 4 eye cpould be a independant store owner who order some so hed have on stock first day.
