Hi guys, I've gotten back into the 40K side of things, and I have my Salamanders which I expect to keep me busy for quite awhile. I've gotten to wondering about a possible second army (nuts right? I barely have the time and money for one right now). So anyways I need some help. Here are my criteria:
I've done a bit of looking around, but I haven't seen quite what I'm looking for. I'm open to just about anything, but I might tend towards something not usually seen (which I'll find out once I get down to the GW store for some game nights. This army may be something of a side project for me, so I can buy a squad here and there to paint as a break from the sallies.
- Has a different playstyle than Salamander marines.
- Would look good with an orange colour scheme.
That orange colour scheme is going to be a challenge
I can see it work with maybe orks and the eldar, possibly even tau.
I would've said CSM but I'd imagine it being quite similar as to playing with your Salamanders.
Thanks for the replies guys, I was thinking of the Tau, but my Salamanders seem to be geared towards shooting a lot as well. I might try it with the Orks, since I got a few with the Black Reach set.
How about Tyrranids? Sure you -could- make a shooty army with them, but normally people prefer CC... And I don't think orange would be too bad in a fiery scheme. (Still, I loathe fall colours myself, but that's a personal preference)
Thanks for the recommendations guys, keep 'em coming. I like the tyranids idea. Is there somewhere I can find a general break-down of the different army's playstyles?
Bugs definitely fit the bill. So do Tau.
RecklessFable's Journey to Mediocrity (Painting an IG army)
I've been addicted to World of Tanks lately and neglecting my IG... But it is so... much... fun!
Daemons could also work, deepstriking rending troops or powerweapon troops, or loads of big characters and Daemon Princes.
Tyranids could also work, the shooty variant is very cool, but they would play much more different than salamanders and the broodlord and other cc variants have gotten a new lease on life.
Tau would also play much more different than shooty marines because other than the static variant rely on denying targets and constant movement.
Eldar would also be a fun choice. Eldar have some very different variants from horde, to elites, to extremely fast mech orientations.
Orks would also be an interesting choice and with the AoBR set you will find a surplus of cheap boyz on ebay at the moment.
I think you'll find a nice variety of differences from marines if look at any of these.
Go with the orks is my vote.
Yeah maybe I will do orks, since that warboss from AoBR is looking cooler, and cooler every day. I guess the ork codex should be in my near future.
