I went to the Monsterocalypse section to see what it was, then I saw a topic about the realism of the monsters fighting, dying, and then going to fight another game. It's a good point and is part of why I dislike using Special Characters as well as using special one-of-a-kind items (40k is nice since there is a lot of mass production stuff, but in Fantasy a lot of magic items are one of a kind).
So I was wondering how many people feel similarly, or for some other reason just dislike using Special Characters.

Personally I don’t like the idea of using special characters in regular games.
Unfortunately in the new Space marine’s codex they are pushing characters.
The way I justify their use is that they are not really the names character, I like building custom minis to represent them on the table so it feels less like using the same Pedro Cantor that everyone else is using.
Using named units is one of the reasons I don’t really like Warmachine, that and the cookie cutter lists.
I don't like using them. Although I can see how for special occassions they serve a purpose.
I would post more but my head isn't up to it....

I vote yes.
I think the idea of using special characters rules and stats for you own minis is a great idea, more uber special characters the better I say.
I AM BOOMER!
I like the oppertunity to model my own characters and apply the rules from some special characters to them. It's nice to be able to have a real hard case to lead my army. I'm not such a big fan of using the actual character models, though - it gets a bit samey.
Doesn't make any more sense for the same armies to use the same "rare and powerful" magic items every battle. When near identical lords are built for pretty much every army of a type, you might as well have a special character with that kit.
Generally though my issue with SC has nothing to do with fluff, but rules. Most of them are either too pricey, have bad kits or have kits you could easily replicate and improve on with magic items/wargear.
I do kinda agree though with making the models your own rather than just using stock models. Who's to say that no other marine could become a monstrosity like Lysander?
Blais's Paint Studio-Getting broken armies good soft scores since 2009
I never used them until the Space Marine Codex changed the way things worked for me. Now I almost always run Shrike, and have been trying others out.
I'm not a fan of special characters.
Again, always the complaint about why the same dude shows up for every battle, ever.
Also, I find it inhibits creativity. I liked the days of the armory though, where you could build unique and good characters. Now, GW has toned down generic characters so that special guys stand out and are better. If I wanted prefab characters and armies by necessity, I'd play a different game. In this game, I always thought a lot of the fun was to make your own army and characters. Guess a lot of other people don't agree with me though, judging by the popularity of the specials.
I'm trying to catalog every song with a reference to yetis or Sasquatch. Please help.
Very rarely. I haven't used a special Character since I played Imperial Guard about a decade ago. I may have to make an exception for Telion though.
Who could resist putting Big Boss in your army?
I have models of Lysander and Shrike, but I have not used their rules, yet at least.

I tend to stay away from special characters in normal sized games(1500pts or whatnot) but in Apoc sized games i wouldnt mind more the merrier in my opinion.
I would though some day like a to sneak snikrot or kaptin badrukk and Even the mighty ghazghkull mag urk thraka!.
