Sorry the title was meant to say 'Would a Nazi themed lost and damned army be to much taste?'
O.k I had a long post written out, but I think its better just to make this
short and sweet, would a Nazi themed lost & damned army be ‘too much bad taste’?
Would you find it offensive to play against a army of Nazi zombies and werewolf’s?
I AM BOOMER!
This depends fully on how you do it, since there's a big stepped between "themed" and "cut from the stone of a Hitler-statue".
Using the imagery and common design elements of the WWII German army would make for some pretty cool IG. But having an army running around shouting "Siegh Heil!" and in the same time being on a crusade to exterminate the lesser species (I realise that's technically what the Imperium is doing, but you get my drift) would be a bit... questionable.
But it all comes down to what your plan is. I imagine that some would get really upset about it though.
Nazi's are a political group, so yes it would be a very bad taste, however,
not all german soldiers were "nazi" they were like me (im a soldier) just doing my job, im not a labour party guy, im nott a conservative, im just ding my job!
If however you mean a WW2 Era German Army themed force, go to town man!
Im assumeing someone has been playin CoD 5 Nazi Zombies :p lol
PROUD TO BE IN THE BRITISH ARMY.
~~ Surrender and serve me in life, or die and slave for me in death~~
I don't really see how you plan to depict racist views through your models without it being distasteful. If you however just want a german WWII themed army I see no reason not to.
I wouldn't have a problem but I'm not a PC kinda guy. The main problem I would have is how would a Nazi themed army fit in the 40k universe? That begs the question what is the real reason behind creating a Nazi themed army.
"They say the Darkness consumes you. They don't say what happens after It's done."
So I would not use ANY nazi symbols and without them they are not Nazis.
The imperial guard draw from many different countries and historical periods, so go for it. However, adding swastikas might get offensive. The theme is good, the symbol might be too much.
I wouldn't really call them nazi as their not the soldiers but the political group (though in a lot of films etc they like to call every german a nazi), just have it German WWII themed/ secrets of the third reich which I think you mean. As long as you don't have swastikas then its fine and people can't really complain.
I think a lot of people like to over react to things like this and pretend its offends them, especially on forums, but they have no reason to if theres no swastikas, why play warhammer if war offends you? Besides that a lot of imperial guard and orks in the past have had german themed helmets, tanks etc (old metal ork stormboyz who had a "SS" S on their helmet, orks with german stick bombs, imperial guard with german field caps) etc etc.
I think it's a fine line. Nazis turn up as bad guys in lots of forms of pulp entertainment and 40k is a pretty fine example of Sci-Fi pulp. Have a look at Hellboy (film and comics), "Eastern Front" (Vampire Nazis), GearKrieg and Westwinds "Secrets of the 3rd Reich" are all examples of "Nazi" bad guys off the top of my head.
The trick is really to use the imagery without pushing any offensive message. I'd be ok with slick, scary uniforms with red and white armbands but I would stop short of putting a swastika on it. An Imperial eagle would be a good alternative.
If you're not sure you can see what I mean then ask yourself this- "If you're concerned enough that you have to ask if it's ok, what do you think the answer will be?"
