Yes - I like playing as a xeno, mutant, deamon, robot undead, etc
Nope, I'm play with men.
Last night me and my mate was chatting about films such as aliens vs predator and what was the point of having humans in the the films.
And I got thinking, would I of played 40k if there was no humans in it?
I think yes, because for me 40k is a chance at painting and using xenos in a game.
So would any of you still play if 40k didnt have humans (and of any kind, so no s.m, csm, i.g, inq, sob) in it?
I AM BOOMER!
A film without humans will lose the relation aspect of it. You need to relate to the pain of the actors. For games like these, you've removed the human aspect of the game as you are handling troops and not playing RPG.
RPG with robots would not be fun.

Me, I voted Maybe. It would all depend on the nature of the fluff (though it would mean I'd be unable to discuss the co-existence of the 40K universe and the Star Trek universe with my GF), and how well they can craft the alien races. And also, could they go deeper than generic Fantasy but with guns instead of swords?
Since I used to play Tyranids, I think the WH40K world would lose much of its flavor if they were no humans at all in it...
And I agree, I need to relate to the pain of humans... that's why they are the favorite enemies of my Eldar army!
However I agree with zarkzervo... without humans (either playing with them or against them) will lose the relation aspect of it.
It is hard to empathize with bugs, robots or even with Space Marines (it is easier with humanoid aliens like Tau or Eldar)...
I guess that's why I grew bored of painting Tyranids...
So I would still play WH40k (since I collect 'nids, Eldar, and Space Marines), but I would not enjoy the game as much without humans.
maybe; though i'd most likely just convert a race to look like humans or something anyways (like tau aren't too hard to do that as).
...but it depends, how the fluff of the races is portrayed, though i'm sure there wouldn't be much difference; the disappearance of the imperium, for example, would remove a huge chunk of the stories and fluff in 40k to be filled by the other races.
Perhaps. It would fully depend on how the fluff. Of course, it wouldn't be 40k without humans since they are the most important race in the fluff. So I voted 'maybe'. The relation-aspect is very important though.
Given the replies so far, I'm surprised the Yes camp is winning by so much. Anyone willing to share their thoughts on the matter
I only play marines because that's what I started with. My army of choice would be 'nids I've just never got around to build a 'nid army
No I don't think I would really. The whole reason I got into 40k was because of IG and SM. Not just because they are armies that I like, but because of the connection of being human too. Its like, a deep sort of escapism really.
