You forgot the option I'll be using: "I play both, so EVERYONE ELSE DEAD."

i play guard but when u look at both codexs they both got improvments but i think guard have got the better deal.

In terms of a fight who knows 40k armies are designed to be balanced so surly its not a set thing

I voted Guard based on a table top game...

On the table top, the guard has the advantage in larger battles with their vast selection of armor and powerful artillery. They just get more lethal when they have the points to spend.

Fluff, the marines would probably perform a few surgical strikes to eliminate any sort of command structure the guard has, throwing the guard into a mass of confused troopers.

Also they both use the titan legions, and some of those titan guns will vaporize a marine just as easily as they would guardsmen.

In all seriousness, I still rate the Marines in this one. The reason is probably just that I play them more, but I think of more tactics for Marines against Guard than for Guard against Marines.

Taking two players of equal skill, I'm giving it to the Guard without a contest. The book is just to nasty IMO.

Guard are completely reliant on the Valkyries to take objectives. Marines don't have such trouble so I'd say it the Marines' game to lose. And I still haven't forgiven GW for the storm shield buff.

First, I must agree with the above

Dice throwing and windage aside... except for the Generals out there

FOC games will go mostly Marines way... pure SM punch and not enough IG attrition

Apoc games will go mostly IG way... thousands of troops / hundreds of vehicles... pure IG attrition

Guard are completely reliant on the Valkyries to take objectives. . .
Just because the guard got a new fancy flyer, doesn’t mean they are going to abandon their old objective grabbing units. Infantry in a chimera are perfectly capable at capturing objectives. Especially now with the option of using special and heavy weapons teams to hold objectives.
