Chaos Space Marines
Super Secret Other Army I Don't Know About
Why in your opinion is the best shooty army? Is it Tau with the long ranged high strength shots, Imperial Guard with the million-and-a-half strength 3 attacks, or Necrons with the constant constantness of the world most static army, or something else?
I voted Tau... of course. It's pretty much all they do. Great range, everything is higher strength, railguns, Crisis Suits, etc.
All the other armies have some kind of tough melee unit or hand-to-hand specialists... the best Tau get are Kroot. Which are used to counter assault and allow the Fire Warriors a chance to escape at best. Guard and Eldar are up there on the shooty list as well, but even they are more versitle and can field some decent Close Combat units.
Has to be Imperial Guard. Especially with the new Codex, there is all manner of shooty-ness going on!
For me it has to be tau, cant beat those pulse rifles
I had to throw my hat in for my old Tyranids. If you build a shooty army, it can outshoot nearly any army because of how mobile and efficient it is. Devourers really make Monstrous Creatures into mobile firebases.
With shooty Nids I have outshot Imperial Guard, Tau, Chaos Marines (Slaanesh Centered), Black Templars.
The new IG 'dex probably can outshoot anything out there, but as for more interesting and left field, yet able to hold its own, I have to stick by my old standby of 'Nids.
witch hunters, we package the bullets nicely and deliver them straight to your door in our neat little mail trucks.
Guard there 9 tank heavy support says it all.
while guard are awesome shooters and the bias of the new codex i still think tau edge it

I think what gives IG the edge is the great variety of weaponry they have. Yeah, Tau have the extremes covered pretty well (from railguns to small arms), but IG just has more choice, and thus you can tailor your shootyness to outshoot any specific foe.
I also think Tau sacrifice some of their shootyness for extra mobility, unlike IG who truly are just a giant sledgehammer of shooty.
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
