Is anyone else getting fed up with their local store? My local store has been stocking pretty much the entire standard range for ages, and has suddenly decided that the rang is now so large that they can stock only a small fraction of the blister packs that they used to. For someone collecting Vostroyans, whos range is almost entirely in blister packs, that sucks. They have no vostroyans in stock, ever. They have to order it from a warehouse across the city, which somehow takes 2 weeks. Granted their range is always increasing, but they stock only 1 product! How hard can it be to fit the majority of their standard blister packs? They've been doing it for years, why is it suddenly so hard? And if the blister packs take up so much friggin room why do they keep making more of the annoying metal bloody models? Whats wrong with plastic? Seriously, plenty of hobby stores still manage to stock a wide variety of GW products as well as heaps of other stuff, why does a GW store have so much trouble stocking the stuff? Its the only thing they sell.
So yeah, I have absolutely no reason to go there anymore, there isnt usually anyone wanting to play most of the time and I can loads more friendly hobby discussion online, like here . And since it takes them 2 weeks to get in a couple of blister packs I can get their product faster online to. Lame.
Anyways rant over. Anyone else have any similar experiences with the store you love to hate and the product you hate to love?
My local Gw has always been friendly, I travel 60 miles down a train line to get there, so I'm like on eof the furthest customers and i've always been welcomed, I'm considered a veteran to some degrees and such, I never have to pay the store chip tax, which is amussing on saturdays, and the staff are always willing to help, as I am to them. I go most tuesdays in the year as thats Vet's night and any saturdays i can get off work.
I have noticed their range of blisters have gone down and store wise there isnt any room, My own bedroom is only slightly smaller than the store. They havent many blisters out but they usually have them about somewhere.
Somehow I think your local Gw is one of those that isnt run to well, One of the staff from the one i'm at went to another gw 10 miles down the road and singled handedly made a week's profit in a day. Simply being firndly and what not.
It that I say I'm lucky..
Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't -all- GWs stopped selling vostroyans in store? Just like valhallans, tallarns etc? The reason being that compared to straight up cadian and catachan (which have plastic boxes and so are ideal for people getting into the hobby and most guard players) very little of these specialist armies sell, and they take up a lot of shelf and stock space. GW are however blessed with a very good delivery system - it shouldn't take anything like 2 weeks to get to your store, unless you live somewhere rather secluded. And their customer service is excellent. If you're going to collect an all-metal army of models that were released to promote an event/campaign (if memory serves right) then you should be prepared to use the mail order system, as all vostroyan players do (apart from myself, who won them as a prize instore during the 25th birthday celebrations)
yea, it's understandable that there are some bad stores i guess. there's about 3 GW's within a half hour of me and a battle bunker about an hour away (baltimore/glen burnie).
my store has a fairly good reputation, plenty of space (8-seat paint table and 5 6x4 tables) and a very friendly/helpful staff... though they had some trophy from within the company for that too for a brief time.
but the other 2 stores i generally wasn't impressed with, albeit one was a hole-in-the-wall mall store. and i remember almost knocking the **** out of this staffer for the attitude he had when he jumped in my face as i walked into the store (though restraint prevailed and merely filed a complaint... though i know several other people who have to and he's still there and i still hear stories about him so shrug)
even the battle bunker is rather shabby, there were a ton of gaming tables and a rather large paint table (though it lacks almost any hobby supplies on it) but both the interior and exterior of the building in general reflected the rundown look of the neighborhood it was placed in (one of those places where you roll up the windows and lock the doors even when just running into the convenience store for a minute).
that all said... i love my regular GW store, it's great. i don't think i'll ever visit those other ones again though.
