I am going in the academy at gamesworkshop, and i would like to know what you people would advise in terms of minatures to bring for the program. Any help would be appreciated.
Well I recently got a flyer and it says to bring at least 3 minaturees and they provide the rest like paints and brushes. And at the end I guess they let u play them. But I would take like 5 troops that already have mould lines filed so u won't have to paint over mould lines. By the way, which games workshop are u going to? Im in one of the academies but I havnt gone in a while.
hmmmmmm. i was wondering since they suggest that you buy a starter set so that you have an army to play with and paint and stuff.
I have never done the academy my self, however the army box sets are good value for money and a good starting place for any army. It depends how much money you got to weather you go of rthe smaller £50 ones or the big £100+ ones. you could get the 40K starter set as again its great value for money and you get the rules etc which is always useful for a new gamer.

shrug, never done it though sometimes i wish they had something like that back when i started ...10ish years ago, would have helped out a lot on getting to grip with the hobby. so i do recommend it if you're just starting out.
but anyways, not sure if it's the same but the Academy program here is like a 4-6 week program, once a week for 1-2 hours a session. and at the end of it, you get a free gw transport case (which costs about what the classes did anyways).
fairly sure week 1 was just bringing in like a box of plastic models still on the sprues (the kid i watched 2 days ago had an unopened necron warriors box) and they basically start you from the very beginning, which would be clipping all the parts off, filing off mold lines and assembling the models as well as how to prime.
then i think week 2 you'll come in with a primed squad and they'll do painting classes... it's all fairly organized and they'll help you through what you'll need. another session is about conversions, then there's listbuilding, and learning to play... not sure what else but i think there's 1 or 2 more.
