Has anyone honestly check this junk out yet?
What exactly are we play 300 dollars for? The honor to own a piece of plastic by Games Workshop? This is just silly, its not even a good deal.
People may complain about people complaining, but its a lot better than holding it in until you snap and find yourself melting down your models and tossing plastic balls at squirrels in your back yard.
You know it includes the battleboard, right?
But if you don't like it, make your own. GW aren't forcing you to buy it, these deals are good for people who want to club together (although I still wouldn't get this as I already have the board...)
I do indeed know it includes the board. I just think the prices mocks its customers, for its over priced clunk of plastic. Anyone that can drop 300 dollars plus dollars on the board should think twice, drop 100 instead to build their own from scratch (several boards with 100 dollars), and use the other 200 to buy something else, like start another army.
When I feel like answering peoples questions like "why waste your money on plastic stuff / toys / etc?"
I tell them that smokers waste a lot more money on bits of dried plants and have nothing at the end of the year to show for it... except that "shadow" on an xray
I still have everything from 2nd ed , Epic, and Space Crusade (everything GW related) and I cherish the old memories.
I must giggle at the comments (I confess - comments of truth not moaning) that claim expensive... it is expensive, however, the money that you spend WILL bring it's own reward in whatever hobby that you choose... otherwise it really becomes a fad that you were not interested about in the first place
Love your minis and bits of stuff, you will enjoy the experience... otherwise WHY bother, but if not, then move on to the next temp craze until you find the one for you
Stress… is when you wake up screaming
and realise you haven't fallen asleep yet.
Expensive, yes, and I'd never buy it, would have more fun building my own. Putting perspective on the Warhammer hobby itself. With video games and online play/etc these days, in the long run I've probably shelled out a lot more bucks on Xbox, Playstation, and Computer stuff than I ever have or will on Warhammer.
The hobby is expensive as hell, but 10-20 video games at $50 bucks a pop, a $200-400 dollar console, $100 or more for periphereals, 800-1500 to in computer parts to build a computer, and the hundreds more you can drop on upgrades, subscirptions, anti-virus, other programs. That's well over enough for 4 or 5 or even more armies.
Honestly the long-run price of Warhammer and other miniature games pales in comparison to a lot of other things.
You're in this hobby and expect it to be cheap?
Well, it says 380$ to me (I imagine GW realised that I live in Canada. Evil blighters.), and while I wouldn't personally buy it, I would disagree that it's really that bad. As the original poster just said, he could make his own battleboard, it's not like it's that essential as opposed to needing GW models for tournaments.
And yes, there's all sorts of other, cheaper things you could buy (like an iPod for example), but still, let's say that thing takes 38 hours for someone to build and paint, all of it. Well, 38 hours, 10$ an hour, doesn't seem quite so bad actually.
I'd rather make my own though. Having set hills instead of mobile ones doesn't really appeal to myself, personally.
dude i can build the whole kit for around $100 but think about the time it will take. so its do it cheap and take weeks to finish is all or spend $300 and spend a day or 2 to finish. get my point. its not cheap but if you try you can find the cheap way out.
