Before I go on THIS ISN'T A NEW TO FANTASY post! I know of that thread and have used it.
That aside...I've been looking into getting another fantasy army. Empire and orcs do get tiring after a while. The dark elves appeal to me because of the whole re-roll to hit ability making them nasty in combat despite being T 3 with a relatively low armour save.
Skaven on the other hand have some neat dirty tricks (which are legitimate strategy for them). They have some great magic, shooting, and warmachines. Some neat Special characters as well (although I'd probably never use them). And in november get a new aarmy book (a plus since the newer books become more power gaming happy)
Since The club I'm with is doing a warbands league I figure that;s the greatest tme to start a new army not to mention start small. As saud though they're both good armies however i can't decide. As I can;t persuade myself and nobody in the local shop has been of much help as they all play DE and are bias.
(mods, move if you must and call me an idiot in doing so, if I screwed up of course)

Skaven are getting a new armybook soon so they probably won't be suitable in the campaign unless you keep playing old rules, depending how long it goes on for of course. Dark elves are ok but there are some veeerrry nasty shooting warbands which will tear them apart before they reach your line.
same with skaven but skaven get more bodies for the same points which makes them better. PLUS skaven get throwaway units like slaves which cost 2 pts a model, perfect for soaking up fire. find out what you can about what type of army will be fielded then make a decision.
You know, I usually don't respond to these threadnd the OP rarely listens to the advice of others, simply making others use up their time as the OP finally picks a army for himself, and then changes it two or three more times.
I'd like to start a thread sometime about the number of people who actually have taken the advice of others on an army, ad why they were incapable of picking themselves, especially those people who have played before.
I am heading off to the Peace Corps. It is bery likely I will not be back. Good luck to all of you endeavors.
Well...The Armies that the others are bringing are Daemons, Dwarfs, Beastmen, Tomb Kings, and High elves (that's all I know for fact so far!). The campaign ends in october so before the new book. no worries there.
I understand what you're saying man but I'd seriously like advice as this does determine how I spend my money.
