No, it's fine by me.
Yes, the S.W dex is for Space Wolves!
O.k so we all know that the Space Wolves codex is going to be pretty sweet
with some cool + powerful rules and units.
So is anyone else tempted to use the S.W 'dex for other marine armies?
I'm mostly thinking Chaos marines (but i guess loyal can work as well).
Or would this seem alittle powergamey?
I AM BOOMER!
Why? The only reason I could think would be A. A change or B. Cheese factor
The former I see nothing wrong with, but the latter I really dont understand why you would want to. If you like the space marine units an rules then I assume you like the fluff behind them - unless you simply think 3 attacks nice, stronger than my current army, I'll go for that - so why not collect space wolves. Personally I feel SW is a far too individual and unique chapter to go copying its rules for others.
As for chaos, well, thats heresy!
The problem here is that many space wolf units are very different to other space marine units, (bloodclaws and other drunken looneys)
Personally I wouldn't care if you used the rules but fluff enthusiasts and serious gamers might.
You can call them anything you like as long as the rules are out of the one codex, imo.
I used the BloodAngels rules for my Khorne army once (Khorne models, BA rules).
"So, how did you become a Renegade Space Marine?"
"..... Tax evasion...."
I am considering myself doing a 'space wolves' army, having some rough looking marines (yobbos that hang around street corners drinking white lightening etc) so I can chop them back and forth between codices.
Go for it.
Recently the issue has been raised about the amount of 'rogue' polls that keep popping up with extreme voting periods on, could you please put more suitable dates on in the future.
Ive changed this to 30 days, if you would like this date lengthening then contact me via PM.
I've always taken a simple stance on this:
1> Are you using appropriate minis for the army being played? (equipment, etc...)
2> Are you using a valid set of rules?
So long as both answers are yes, there's nothing that any other player can ever do to stop them. They've got a valid army with valid rules - army fluff and what it actually looks like (other Marines, Chaos, etc...) is of no importance whatsoever. End of discussion.
I was thinking of using Space Wolves to represent my Doom Eagles (Ultramarines 2nd founding Chapter)
The Wolves have troops with 2 special weapons, and ultra grit. This matches my 4th Edition army a lot closer than the current codex.
Wolf lord with claws or frost blade instead of relic blade counts as captain.
I miss out on scouts, bikers, sternguard, etc but depending on what kind of list I want I won't miss them
Arch Overfiend & Grand Despot
I currently play:
Doom Eagle Space Marines
Hive Fleet Omega Tyranids
Goff Ork Boyz(dead)
Tau of O'me
Inquisitorial Xeno Hunters
and my attempted foray into fantasy
'Dark Angel Green' Dark Elves in need of fluff
Your point regarding using say Ultramarines as Space Wolves was my concern.
I've seen on other forums about people suggesting the same thing and the idea did'nt sit well for some as they seem to think if you want to use Space Wolf rules then you should play with a Space Wolf army. I think this was mostly due to people thinking that the new codex was going to make marines even better and that some players out there would try and take advantage of so called 'codex power creep'.
By using any old marine army with space wolf rules and there by some how removing the feeling of using a unqie army such as the space wolves rather than the space marine codex.
I think this also annoys non marine players, say the Elder or Necrons who can't just 'jump ship' (codex) every time a better or more powerful one appers. After all all only marines have 6 different rule books. Where Necrons and such are just stuck with one.
But then I think I do already use armies that would be considered more offensive fluffwise than Space Wolves that have not been painted grey..
I was thinking of maybe doing space marine renegades so it's a toss up between the chaos codex and the space wolves codex. I want a real rough and ready look to them almost a mad max kind of style. That does sound abit Space Wolfish I guess but I want to paint mine white.
And sorry about the poll, i didnt think it would really let me set it for 999 days!
It wont happen again!
