So, not sure if this goes in this section but here goes...
I have a good friend who likes to play Tau. We frequently engage in 1500 pt battles, and he loves his kroot to tie up my guard before i get in melta range. Anyway, before every battle, we rarely have an impartial person to place our terrain and so we do it ourselves.
On to the point: I have been getting pissed off that every terrain piece he picks just happens to be wooded terrain. In fact I have started to say that he shouldn't be able to use this terrain at all. Of course that pissed him right off, and he started saying he needed every advantage against my cheesy IG army, yadda yadda yadda.
Is it "fair" of me to demand he stop flooding our board with terrain that makes his kroot into terminators? Or should I just ignore it and adapt by making my demolishers eradicators and taking a colossus?
Players take turns placing terrain. He is allowed to choose woods and to place them where ever he wishes. This is even mentioned in the rulebook.
You should be building to counter it by putting some flamers in your army and burning them up right away.
I know your friend might hate me for suggesting this, but here's what you can do.
Pick a piece of wooded terrain before he does, and place it in a ridiculous spot so that it becomes useless to him, or advantageous to you. That, or if he infioltrates them, deploy something close enough to it so that he cant deploy there.
That said, its completely fair for him to do it. When choosing terrain, people think about all kinds of tactical uses for the terrain, and this would just fall under that.
if he claims your army is cheesy, go get a powergamer list and use it until he stfus and stops being a jerk with terrain.
Yeah, I don't see a problem with there being a wood/jungle every game unless you are specifically going for a themed board, such as a barren desert.
I agree with Skelter. Get some flamers and torch yourself some Kroot. The Hellhound is a perfect choice. The Bane Wolf or Colossus will work nicely too.
