Welcome to Librarium Online!
Okay, I admit, I am a very indecisive person. Infact in the whole 2 years of collecting 40k & Fantasy I've never even complete an army!
I read things about an army I'd possibly like to buy, watch other people battle with them & pick up codexs etc for a quick read of information. Then I buy my first models for that army & completely change my mind. I think now I've tried to collect nearly every single army in 40k & fantasy but never succeeded!
Recently I was considering quitting tabletop gaming for good because I've wasted so much money on it in the past. And now, I have dustbin bags full (yes, litterally! of models I don't need. Most painted bad & bairly put together. So the question is- Have you ever bought any models that you thought you needed/wanted but didn't actually? Did you then glue them & then possibly even paint them before you realised? Do you sell then on E-bay or to a friend (or any other method)? If so please tell me. I really need help to stop my money wasting habits -_- .
Well, TBH, one of the best ways is to try and force yourself not to buy more stuff until you have painted what you have already. Its hard, but it saves.
As for my left overs. Sometimes I sell stuff on ebay, but meh, normally I just paint them up if Im bored, or take bits off for my bits box for later conversions and stuff.
For example, I have bits of the old 2nd Ed Pred lying around waiting to be mind into Scenery bits. I have 3 old Rhinos which are going to be made into scenery bits that will end up showing a Blown up Tank for whenever my Tanks get shot at in games.

i did exactly the same, and i DID give up the hobby for years but ive come back into the fold now and luckily i didnt throw anything out.
I'd suggest goig through your collection, keeping enough for the basis of one of two armies from each game, selling the rest on e-bay and then if you want to give the hobby a break for some time at least you have the option of coming back to it one day if you want to and not having to start from scratch.
Caution- dont go browsing on ebay or you might biuy a load of rubbish you don't want by accident- ive just lumbered myself with a load of high elf and beastman models- why why!!!???

I run a miniature rescue service. Just send all your unwanted miniatures to me and I'll take care of them.
It's an addiction, but who cares. There's many more harmful ways to spend your money. If it makes you happy, do it. Compare it to going to the movies with your significant other and how long the enjoyment lasts. It doesn't seem so expensive for the hours of resulting enjoyment.
By the way, I stopped counting models at 6000. Not points, but individual miniatures. I don't think I will ever paint them all even if I continue painting till the end.
As far as getting rid of minis, I've sold quite a few but I never throw them away. And the ones I sold went into financing more. Get a couple of plastic bins and store them away in the closet if your not interested in them right now. You never know if you'll want them later.
I think that Wolf Raider put it best: addiction. Personally i don't really spend much money on anything else besides 40K (figures, codexes, novels) and a couple of PS2 and PC games.
What happens to you, happens to all of us. My first buy was a start set for GorkaMorka and a Blood Angels Honour Guard (I though i could use them together.....) and since then I kept buying stuff.
My list of things that I bought and didn't really use:
2 Starter Sets for GorkaMorka
1 Ork Battle Force
1 Ork Buggie
BA Honour Guard
Full 10 man squad of Tanith IG
Tanith HQ Squad
1,000 points Tau army
Space Wolf big wolf guy....
just to show that you are not the only one, don't feel bad.
I actually sold all my Orks and Tau but instead of actively looking for a buyer, they came to me and even feel a little weird about my Tau....

Thanks all of ya. I think I'll proably leave 40k for a while until I know what I'm going to buy & my reasons for buying it. And if I don't become more careful by then I'm going to have to quit it -_- . I'll try sell my space marines (nearly a whole 1000 pts army), eldar figures (ones I don't need in my army). I have alot more I want to sell but I'm sure nobody would want to buy them.
I eat them!
Actualy I cut 'em up an use 'em for bits.Recycle your troops
I used to buy en masse but I realised my mistake, now I only buy what I will paint and play with. Minis I bought, never used and their fate:
40K Khorne Jugger [I loved the model] - I ripped off the rider and put a chaos knight on it a few years later, now it leads my Chaos Warriors into battle. The rider is still floating in my bits box, maybe I'll impale him on a Daemonhunter weapon.
Tau army - I got carried away with the 'shiny new army' thing but then I realised they were boring so I swapped them for f*ckloads of IG and Orks to bolster the ranks of my main 40k armies.
Loads of LOTR - Expertly painted, I spent ages on these. I used them 'till I realised the game system sucked. They are currently on display in my painting room, I may sell them.
Eldar - After years of neglect they've been bought a shiny new codex and avatar and are undergoing repainting.
I have a bitz box full of nid arms... I dont even play nids.
Really, I have way too many nid arms, it a battle force box full of em! Them bugs have too may arms!
