What types of music (if any) do you and your friends listen to while playing games of Warhammer or painting?
I find that while painting I perfer calmer music such as classical music (Bach etc) and "ambient/trance" music like Deep-Dive-Corp. But while playing games, more exciting music like techno, state radio, and rebelution keeps the intensity up. We've found that "gothic" sounding classical music can also add a great gaming atmosphere (try Midnight Syndicate YouTube - Midnight Syndicate - Darkness Descends)
I do have strange and mixed interests in music so I'm interested in what other people listen to.
"Thank him who puts me loath to this revenge on you who wrong me not for him who wrongd"
Basically every cool piece of war march/ battle music from every film we have watched on random loop.... But more specfically:
Klendathu Drop for deployment.
Prelaitor, Clubbed to death, Requiem for a tower, Sandstorm, anything with a good beat. during battle.
Adagio for strings, Doomsday, Capas Jump, Planet Killers, Schindlers List for when the game is about to end and I'm losing.
Various tracks from Mass Effect like Out of the Wreckage if I'm winning
And of course this for when a certain unit outflanks. I even want to convert one to have a speaker inside just for this.
When I paint I mostly (read: 90% of the time) listen to various death metal bands - it really helps that I found a decent death metal internet radio station so it isn't just me looping my collection endlessly.
I usually find having music in the background ruins my concentration when I'm playing. Although I didn't mind it at WHW... hm. Generally though, when at the club there's people talking everywhere and that's enough really. If I was to listen to something though I'd choose any epic music I could get my hands on. Any of the Star Wars soundtracks (say what you want about Episode 1, but damn does 'Duel of the Fates' rock!), LotR soundtrack etc.
Lux Aeterna", by Clint Mansell. Awesome stuff indeed.
A tip is to browse this website. Loads of awesome music.
Crowning Music Of Awesome - Television Tropes & Idioms
When I'm painting, I usually put something on TV, something I've seen before. Sweeney Todd is great for painting. I managed to get 10 Greatswords painted as I listented to it. It's the same thing for when I'm building stuff. I love watching/listening to supernatural as I'm building spacewolves/empire swordsmen
Right now.. Joe Bonamassa, Muse, Smashing Pumpkins, Miles Davis & Mozart
Although, I do often have my IPod on Random and get whatever comes.. Anything from Arch Enemy to Walter Trout and beyond
Current Army Status - Chaos - 15000 points, Orks (BadMoonz) - 3000 Points - Space Wolves - 4000 Points, Necrons - 2000 Points.
I generally paint in my local store, so I must suffer their looped multi-song single track playlists. At home, when building, I generally have a movie on in the background, just for company.
I listen mostly to 40K Radio while painitng but when I run out of that I listen to some rock music, Kings of Leon, Paramore, Green Day etc. (BTW the Green Day concert last night was off the hook. )
Add me! Let me know your forum name too! =)
Although I normally mainly listen to punk I find I work well with stuff liek Boards Of Canada, Nathan Fake, Four Tet, Mogwai and Explosions In The Sky playing.
But usually the missus has the television on, so I normally paint to the sounds of nature documentaries. David Attenborough is my soundtrack!
For painting I put my iPhone on random which means I've usually got a mix of EBM, futurepop, trance and 90's britrock playing.
Don't usually listen to music when playing, when we do it tends to be soundtracks like Star Wars, Matrix, CT;HD, etc. Oh and the soundtrack to an old PC game called Incubation IV, which was a bit marine vs nid ish.
