Hi all ive jus started to build my new army for 4th edition!
the problem is i really cant decide what special weapons
to give my tactical squads!! "shock, horror"
the theme for my army is samurai space marines!!
which are mainly shooty based so far!! with only the
sgt's having CCW's as usual!
so what i'm asking is what special weapons would best
suit my army with the upcoming rules??
Well, first of all Samurai mainly depended upon CC in their wars. But i think they had the occasional bowmen or something, maybe use a devastator squad with some Plasma Canons and a bunch of chainsword and Bolt Pistol wielding Space Marines.
It's not Raymond Luxury Yacht, It's pronounced throat wobbler mangrove.

My elvish name is Maeglin Meneldur.
Wait till the new marine codex. If you insist on doing it now go for the space wolf rules, with bloodclaws, mmore samurai like. Meltaguns are good v. tanks and plasmaguns are good v. marines and crons. Base it on your opponent. Get some boxes of bloodclaws, they come with meltaguns, powerweapons and power fists and dont have to be assembled as SWs.
Your idea sounds cool, though most people dont know this the art of the sword was secondary to the samurai, the bow and horse where the main weapons of the samurai, so in fact they relied more on ranged attacks than close combat attacks.
lucky for us we do lol
yea at the min i'm just finishing off
my second tactical squad which will have
heavy bolter & plasma gun armed marines
the rest have just bolters! other squad has
rocket launcher & flamer! plan to do a 3rd
with lascannon & meltagun so that way i just
get a variety of weapons both heavy & special!
but yea as you said severus mainly ranged fire
power for them!!
i wouldnt have heavy weapons in my tactical squads. just because it cuts down on either mobility of effectivness of the squad. if u move hen u cant fire the heavy, and if u dont, yur not closer to unleash the massive amounts of hbolter shots.
for heavy weapons, stick to dev squads or any heavy support for that matter. in tactical squads always stick to either flamer, melta, or melta, plasma.
