Sorry to take up your time/bandwidth but I’m incredibly annoyed at the moment and I just needed a little space to vent my spleen. See, for too long now I have been meaning to start up a new FB army yet just couldn’t for the life of me pick one. Eventually, I settled on Orcs and Goblins and waded into my regular GW to buy up a modest collection of plastic men; not my local store mind, I just happen to visit this one out of a friendship I share with a few of the staff. Anyway, after explaining my position the manager decided that he too was on the verge of starting a new FB army and suggested we should team up and go tho the GT doubles as a way to enforce a deadline on the painting of at least part of our forces.
And so it was, Orcs and Skaven (not then out) would be taken to the doubles.
I brought my Orcs and left, to plan out my list... then the mind changing began. The manager decided that my Orc half of the partnership wouldn’t be competitive enough so I agreed I would amass a small Skaven collection and pick up my Orcs after the tournament. He proceeded to change his mind over wanting to do Skaven, leaving me with a collection of Orc and Skaven models... it was with a heavy sigh that I agreed that I’d do an Empire army to compliment his Dwarfs and then pick my Orcs up after... This went on and on until the morning that the tickets were actually on sale, whence he phoned up and pulled out.
I am now the angry owner of an Orc/Skaven/Empire/Bretonnian/High Elf force, collected with the purpose of attending a doubles tournament that I now cannot attend.
It is with great annoyance that I say I can’t stand to think about collecting another Fantasy Battle army, and shall be petitioning for the return of my money before relocating to another store, lodging some kind of very strongly worded complaint and spending my refund on the expansion of my 40k army.
So long square-bases, and thanks for all the fish.
If only they actually kept the game balanced there wouldn't be this debate at all
I almost had the opposite with 40k
I only liked the Tyranid models - but everyone around when I wasa going to buy stuff tried dissuading me from my choice. I liked the Tyranid models - oh but Eldar are better for that. I'm new to 40k - oh you want Tau or Space Marines then. I'd like a close combat army primarily - oh you want orks then.
No I want goddamned bugs! Now gimme!
Getting into a game FOR a tournament seems like it was a bad start, just my opinion perhaps, I've based my decision on what army to collect by what inspires me more to look at a blank model - what is more tactically diverse from what I've played before - can I get excited about this army just reading the fluff?
An army and a computer are comparible when the phrase "Only as smart as the user" is applied. I don't think I could play a lot of the armies in Fantasy and 40k well - simply because I can't get into them so easily. Your friend at the other store put you in an incredibly unfair position, and owes you big time, imo. Maybe another time you can relax into the hobby rather than be flurried about with it!
Fantasy: Wood Elves, Dark Elves, Beastmen and Tomb Kings.
LotR: Misty Mountains and Rohan
What did this jerk have to say for himself after all of that? Just, "Sorry, not going, see ya!" or something?
Man, I'd be ready to let him have it!
... I must say, that is one of the worst stories ever. Was this a GW store?

I've never bought a single thing at someone else's request. Keep playing, just don't team up with him again.
yeah keep playing just sell off the armies you don't want and keep the orcs and goblins. But that's only if you can't trade the non goblin and orc units in at the store for credit or whatever.
WH 40k Armies (W/L/D):
Tyranid: 2250 Points of Awesome (5/4/1)
Necrons: 1000 Points (4/0/1)
Well that is bad, but I can't help but act a bit cold and aloof by saying it is your fault for being so wishy-washy.
-You- wanted an orcs and gobbos army, -you- should've stuck with that idea. Why would it seem like a good idea to slam down a few hundred bucks for a different army -you- didn't choose on? Especially for a single tournament that someone else suggested?
Worse still, you allowed your mind to get changed how many times? I could understand being a bit upset at your friend if you just went with a second army at his expense (especially if you could justify it that you were planning on having the Skaven as your second WFB army anyways), but why would you think that going off and picking up a third army, followed by a fourth and even a fifth was a good idea?
Yes, your friend is pretty horrible, but he can't be fully blamed for this situation.
That's just inexplicable... to spend so much on models because you were asked to by your friend... Does he own your soul or something?
I'd have said, I'm playing O&G's. End of. If you want to do well in this tournament, then choose an army that compliments mine, if you won't then don't play with me.
Yeah its a little bit anal, but then again so was he in the end.
