Welcome to Librarium Online!
I remember when I left the hobby the new plastics were just coming in if I recall correctly the night goblins were one of the first boxes to come out. I remember being a bit bummed by the lack of weight and the cheaper feel, but it was made up for by the models being able to be somewhat posed and giving a bit of variance to the squads. However I remember wondering what on earth they had done with the faces.
Fast forward to now, and I was looking at getting back into the hobby, but everything orcs and goblins looks bloody awful. The faces all have this bizarre melted look, with very little form or style. Big blobby rounded teeth that look like stone henge, faces that look more like they should have crawled out of Chernobyl, they no longer look like a functioning "race" from a fantasy world but rather some sort of pitiful mutants. I look at Azhag and the Wyvern no longer has any sort of decent form. Who needs scales when you can make it have the skin texture of a shaved cat? Who needs a face that looks like it's attached to the skull of a living creature when you can have mounds of blobby formless skin with a couple of eyes poked in it? Who needs muscle structure when you can have formless sausages with lots of "detailed" droopy flesh? The only thing I will admit the new models have going for them is more dynamic poses.
So Anyhow, when did all this happen? Did GW replace it's designers? Did they choose this to appeal to a younger audience somehow? Or was their intention simply to try and get you to replace all your old models by completely changing the look and feel so they could make a few more $$? I am genuinely curious!
Also, what year or edition did most of this happen if I am looking for models of the older style?
I think the designers put alot of work into the plastic sets nowdays.
The plastic orks and grots of old were static and you have to have 50+ in one pose.
Now almost all kits all mutli part giving great freedom in how you build them.
Of course IF you can do better please feel free to start up your own mini company.
I AM BOOMER!
Most people love the new plastic models... this must be the first rant I've seen about them.
Admittedly I'm not familiar with the O&G models but every other plastic kit I've used has been miles better than the old metal minis. Frankly I refuse to use metal models now!
Hi Carbon14. One of my friends just got into Orcs and Goblins for Fantasy Battles, and he really likes them. He is always painting some, doing wild conversions, or gaming with them. Granted, he's only recently started looking up on the net the older models, maybe he'd prefer them to the new ones too, I don't know. Anyway, my point is that some people love the newer sculpts. It's not necessary to insult the new sculptors and their work to let us know you don't like the new models. Are there any Warhammer models, from other races that you do like? Maybe after a long break a new army is just the thing you need?
Welcome to Librarium Online! I hope you find something you like in 40K or Warhammer
Dude, you're totally trollin'.
Quality of miniatures has gone up. You're only looking at one set of miniatures. Move along.
Don't mind me, I suppose I am just pissed my favourite race became so damn ugly, and in my opinion not the good ugly, but the badly made kind of ugly. And also that my second preference, the lizardmen, seem to have been beaten with the ugly stick too, skinks look like some sort of alien lizard hybrid? I guess I just don't like the newer art direction, if it can be called that. I am all alone in this opinion however I believe, so meh, I guess most people like it!
I would say the quality of the range overall has increased dramatically but there were some great miniatures in the olden days (metal anyway!) But then again not everyone is going to like all of the new models.

Actually I like the comic style of the orks, that`s the reason why I play them. The models, not the Sv
Some newer models are really not that appealing to me, like newest daemonettes vs Juan Diaz version, bloodletters, jump pack raptors vs winged raptors, obliterators.
But I think all of them are great quality models, just some newer style I don`t like that much.
The plastic also better for conversions.
