Recently and near future updates by games workshop include:
Space Wolves Codex
Blood Angels Codex
Beastmen Rule Book
Skaven Rule Book
Now, Space Wolves dont need a codex since they are quite simply just Space Marines with a passion for fur, same goes for Blood Angels if i want an army about 'The Red Rage' il collect Sisters of Battle 'Wink 'Wink.
SWs and BAs, aswel as DA and BT can just use the same codex as the other 5 legions.
Tyrnids... they have had a new codex per eddition! Im not saying thats bad, but some armys havent even been updated to 4th
I feel so sorry for the Dark Eldar players, alot of their units were made back when light infantry wernt given armor, where as the SM scouts can boast a 4+ Dark Eldar Warriors dont even get that!
Necrons fortunatly were well made and can still hold their own, they just need a few tweeks to keep up with all the new rules the SP get. Since SM are the most played army they prob face them alot.
Sisters of battle and Deamonhunters are an addtion to SM and Imperial Guard armys, so i gess they dont need updating so soon, so no complaints here, though im sure someone can come up with some.
Now Skaven and Beastmen. Bravo GW, you updated two old lovable races with nice new rules and nice new mod... Wait? Where are the Doom Flayer models? Warp Grinders? Hell Pit Abbominations?
And Beastmen... new Minoturs, a Big Pig and a guy with a staff... WOW
I know they re-did the unit blocks aswell but realy they just got the troops to spearate so you have one unit choise which was slightly taller than the other...
I watched a few games for both Skaven and Beastmen, the Skaven do awsome so my rant for them ends at why publish new units but not new models. Happy little rats
Beastmen, dear oh dear, GW what has thou done? the Beasts individuality is now as generic as...
oh i give up ya know...
Nice Rant. I do hope they sculpt some of the more Insanely powerfull units for Warhammer Fantasy (Hell Pit Abbomination/ Ghorgon/ Jabberslythe)..
Well as a wolf player i have to say about time they got there own dex and that there rules set them apart from other sm this olso stands for the other chapters that have extream gene seed defecks could you amagine the size a sm dex would be if you were to put them it just would not work lol,
I do agree with you on the dark eldar though they do need updating which should happen this year
i cant coment on fantasy as i dont play lol
Maybe they haven't released models for all the units they have rules for, but the models they have released have generally been of high quality. Wouldn't you rather have 1 good model than 2 shoddy models? at least if there ARE no models it encourages conversion and creativity
Sorry for the pore spelling. I try my best to spell words to the best of my abilatuy though this can be very hard sometimes as i suffer from very bad dislexiea so i do apologice
My local Skaven player ( bennonater ) made his own doomflayer, and his own warlitter ( Skaven attempt to mimic Dwarf shieldbearers ) , they look great. When there are no models it encourages to make your own, stimulate a part of the hobby. And pretty minor parts of armies have no models. Beastmen rare choices, and skaven ( less used ) weaponteams.
I however do agree that GW neglected the beastmen rare section. They added a load of gaint like creatures, but aren't decent enough to build at least 1 of them ( however, these models are the size of giants and aren't that necessary for a beastmen army, like a stegadon is for lizardmen, so they aren't expected to sell that many. )
The amount of space marine ( and space marine related ) codexes is getting a bit out of hand. It kinda looks like GW thinks: "what armies are selling well? Let's update those." But those old armies aren't selling well because they are older, and hardly viable anymore in a competitive setting. They did beastmen and skaven though, which deviates from that 'update-strategy', and with tomb king rumours pointing towards an update soon it seems as though they are starting to update the old-timers amongst the armybooks.
in 40K Dark eldar and necrons are not so lucky though.
Luckily I hate dark eldar because they are ( space ) elfs, so I don't mind ;D
I remember back when they released the 4th edition Eldar Codex they said that the reason they got rid of my Swordwind was to make it so that each race had one codex capable of modeling itself fluffwise after the different factions of the army. Sounded good at the time, since I could still do a Swordwind-esque army by taking Dire Avengers as my troops and filling out my elites with aspect warriors. Then they promptly kicked that idea in the head and released Dark Angels. So that's why I'm angry that they did Space Wolves and are doing Blood Angles.
It goes beyond that really though. The 5th edition codexes are just sooooo much more powerful than the 4th edition dexes (to say nothing of the ones still waiting from 3rd: Necrons, Dark Eldar, and the 2 Inquisition dexes). And not only that but the only codex that was updated that really needed it were guard. Tyranids were still competitive and the rest were just space marines.
Hopefully soon I can dust off my Necrons though. Maybe GW will show them some love once they release Blood Angels Black Templars and Dark Angels all in a row.
The enemy's gate is down
I'd love to be able to reply to the rest of it, but unfortunately I don't play WHFB so I'm not really qualified to talk.
Nice rant though
Edit: 2000 posts! Yay!
Your complaining about something that just normal for GW. Nice rant BTW.
Try this on for size though. GW's prices goes up and the quality of their product goes down. I got an 5th edition rule book. It was $50 and 1 year later it's falling apart. It got the old 1 with the 3rd edition starter set. The 3rd edition starter set cost $100 and because GW sent me a Spanish version not an English version if got 2. So I bought 1 and got another free. On to the point. The 3rd edition core rulebook was used much harder and is just a little ruff around the edges. I use my 3rd edition book from the very beginning of 3rd edition up to around this time last year. I didn't buy 4th edition. I knew it would be short lived from the day I seen the rulebook for 4th. oh and there is but this is your rant.
