So, I just had a great idea. Its not original, its not super awesome, but its my idea of a bunch of fun to get me back into this game.
A 40k equivalency army of irregular soldiers, basically small-time rebels and tough guys, hiding from the tyrannical imperium.
Now, I know you're all gonna say "Necromunda!"..Naw naw. I need an ARMY of these gits and rejects.
I'm unsure of how to take this. Its not quite Orks, they're just human - I'd need nobs for an Ork army. They're not traitor guard - they're wasteland grubs. They use unconventional and ridiculous weapons and an intense Guerilla warfare doctrine, not fancy pansy chaos magic.
Cowboys, Gas masked mohawks, AWOL guard, etc.
Now, based on the infinite public knowledge - what codex in your experience would best suit this kind of soldier?
I'm thinking orks, but how am I going to do Nobs? Assault class Heavy machine guns? I've never seen an official Traitor guard codex , and Imperial guard seems really well organized to be a Guerilla mob.
I'm up to any suggestions - Anything can be explained to suit the army , equivalences can be done.
Personally I would go for the Imperial Guard. You would have to alot of conversion work but I think its best represents what you seem to want. Plenty penal legionnares and conscripts modelled right would look fantastic and also keep to your theme of deserters, gangers and rejects. You could also add in 'counts as' straken and chenkov to add to the brutality your army and vets with shotguns and demolitions could be used as ambushers.
Conversions are what I am planning on. I was thinking about Imperial guard heavily as well..And it would sure make a whole lot more sense, considering they're all human. Thanks for the reply mang.
I'd say go for IG as well, using any other race (such as Orks) would mean you have human minis with stat lines of another race- bound to ruffle feather in a certain type of gamer.
Also as the IG codex is very varied- and if your models had a down and dirty look the rigid formations of an IG force wouldn't be so obvious- and as winginson said use of Penal legion troops and conscripts would give just the right look and feel to your army.

Stick with the guard codex but how about using a Rouge trader as the 'commander'.
