I've just recently returned to the game and let me tell you, the first thing I noticed was Melta spam is everywhere.
That said, do you anticipate a large points increase once 6th edition SM/CSM rolls around?
I could see GW doing this. Light/Medium vehicles seem to be enjoying a nice little renaissance but the big baddies like LRs and predators seem more vulnerable than ever.
Those are expensive models that GW wants us to buy a bunch of. So, will they curtail the power a bit with a points increase?
They will probably nerf Melta like they nerfed rending. You'll have to roll a 6 on the first die to roll the second. They they will raise the cost anyway to get folks to buy different models.
RecklessFable's Journey to Mediocrity (Painting an IG army)
I've been addicted to World of Tanks lately and neglecting my IG... But it is so... much... fun!
If you had to roll a 6 first there are some armies that would seriously struggle be able to penetrate AV14. it's more likely they'll change the vehicle damage chart again, as that's what has made mech king in 5th.
Melta is already dying.
Longer range AT is making a comeback with razorback spam, and long fangs. Ths has led other armies to adapt by taking more long range AT.
Grey Knights will warrant a decrease in melta because plasma will be effective agaist them and I hear something about a psychic test to ignore shaken/stunned. Ths will make long range supression less effective and people will have tp componsate with more long range AT weapons.
When Necrons are released we will probobly see a rise in the number of vehicles with living metal, I doubt they'll get a new vehicle without the rule. So their vehicles will nerf melta and we will again have to look elsewhere for AT weapons.
Melta is dying on its own, we dont need 6th ed.
That said they'll probobly make exploding vehicles more deadly, possibly S5 hits to passengers and S4 hits to outsiders (all at -1 S if its open topped) at an automatic 6" range where all units hit must take a pinning test.
That would help weaken Mech, and put the nail in the coffin of melta at the same time. Assault armies wouldnt be that happy though.
