Chaos Space Marines
So, I'm playing in a big tournament on the 15th and I know alot of the players personally and they typically play Marines, or their variants (BA, DA, BT, GK etc.). No gurantees that they bring those armies to play, and we all pretty much have a marine army. But it dawned on me what truly is the BEST army against marines?
To start things off I think Eldar. Why? Because runes of warding hits their non-invuln psykers big time. Lances get their tanks. Dark reapers are the anti-marine basic infantry. Firedragons, harleys, banshees all do what they do against marines. And holo-fields keep your tanks alive.
Basically, they're an army with specific units designed to get certain armies, and units within that army.

I can definitely agree that eldar with a tailored list can do well.
Personally I've had alot of success with chaos space marines. Two deamon princes with wings and lash of slaanesh will make a mess of a squad or two, and a bunch of rapid firing thousand sons seem to do the job to clean up the rest. Chosen in a rhino with meltaguns do the trick against armour nicely when paired with obliterators as well.
The other army that makes a mess of space marines is mechanised imperial guard. Leman russes put down pie plates of S8 AP3 and you can take alot of them. Demolishers take out terminators in a hurry too. All that AV14 front armour is great against predators with sponson and turret lascannons, and veterans in chimeras with 3 meltas deal with any high armour while vendettas deal with transports at long range.
Those are the only two that i've have experience with so far, but most armies have ways that they can be tailored to be a spacemarine killing force, but you'll get killed by a horde army easily in most cases if you do that.

Well been a marine player from my POV all armies can be tailored to be anti marines.Marines are a jack of trades and master of none army.If they focus on shooting you can outshoot them,if they focus on CC they can be stomped.Its a balanced marine army that has the most chances of succes and in order to win that you have to hit em with specialised squads isolate them and clober them piece by piece.

i voted guard as they generally can take on anything you can throw at them. BUT personally there is no 'best one' its all down to the skill of the player, orks are my best one there is nothing like watching a marine player's face sink when nobz get stuck in... though DE are just as good when incubi get there marines tend to die quickly (sometimes too quickly, or indecently quickly). other than that 'other' marines are good against them, GK's 'could' be rather nasty- i've yet to try mine out.
overall you don't need to talior lists as i have found some players far too complacent for their own good- only for me the dark horse to give them a good pasting (ahem atm that would be with SW ) though being sensible and knowing how your army works is the best way to do things then you can despatch them without too much worry. Just watch out for hurt pride though as i have no doubt that my incubi will have the 'cheese' label stuck to them sooner or later by some 'not so competent' players at my club despite the fact the more experienced folks (me included) know that they are powerful but the have their weaknesses.
it all boils down to being sensible when you choose your army, i think that is where some marine players fall over themselves.
I would have voted for Space Wolves since they basically do everything Marines do but cheaper and better. However, since they are kinda 'marines' themselves it would have made little sense so I voted for Leman Ru... I mean Imperial Guard.
