Welcome to Librarium Online!
what is your opinion on buying/selling models from/on ebay?
do you pay more if it's painted?
or are you just looking for cheap models?
or do you solely buy from GW shops and GW site?
since a few months i check ebay regularly, if i can buy a unit, or more then a unit for a lot cheaper, i really can't just ignore it
i'm a student and don't have lot's of spare money so i don't mind buying cheaper elsewhere for the same models
i won't pay more for painted models cause most of the time it says PRO PAINTED it's just plain ugly and badly done!
and i did buy a limited edition BSB ... so sometimes you just have to
I use ebay for the out of production models, like the big hatted chaos dwarf. I don't pay more for painted ones I would even consider to pay less for them, seeing as I need to do more work on them. When they are already painted a need to strip it, before re-painting.
I buy allot of stuff from eBay, but the bulk of my army comes from Maelstrom.
I use eBay to buy limited/oop models, or plastic bits for conversions.
I don't buy painted unless it is allot cheaper. I'd rather play with an unpainted army, that with someone else's handy work.
I check e-bay every day. In fact I have two bids open right now and another 20 warriors in the mail off e-bay. I'm buying used models at half the cost. I try to avoid painted models, the warriors for example are undercoated but nothing more than that.
I would never pay the insane prices for the "pro-painted" stuff. I have no clue who does that.
I still buy from GW but when I see 20 warriors for $35 with free shipping I see no reason not to snatch it up.
I buy everything from my local Rogue Trader. I can rest assured that GW isn't getting all my money, and that I'm supporting my LGS and local economy with what I buy. The only time that I don't buy from them is if I need bits. Then I hit up The Warstore for Battlewagon Bitz.
There was a brief period- right after the last price hike- when everyone stopped buying anything that still had a GW box around it. All the sales were going through eBay or discounters, and the LGS came very close to closing. It actually wound up costing us a lot of gaming space because it prompted him to move to a smaller, less costly location. That's why every time someone complains about GW and starts screaming for blood and boycotts, I want to punch them.
I love my LGS, and support them fully. They run great deals, host decent tournaments with fair amounts of prize support, and also organize a lot of events to support local charities. It reminds me of what the ideal GW shop used to be like.
eBay is great if you need something quickly, on the cheap, or can't find it anywhere else. But if you have a local (particularly, a non-GW stockist) you should be supporting them. If you're using their space to play, they're probably giving it to you for free, and it costs them money to stay open. Show a little love, or you're going to lose that privilege. And don't expect someone else to pick up the slack either- do it yourself.
Also- Krull, be sure to get stuff into the right forum. This thread is applicable to more than just WoC, and more even than just Fantasy. This should be up in the General Hobby Talk section of the forum. --moved.
I'll buy the occasional bits and pieces from eBay, and now that Maelstrom can't sell to Australia anymore I'm likely to increase that. Buying figures from a UK seller is a lot cheaper than GW's Australian RRP.
I dont buy painted figures, though. At beat, it would be a figure that doesn't march the rest if my army. At worst, the paintjob may ruin the figure.
I've bought painted tanks on ebay before. Never bothered to repaint them myself and since theyre not my own colourschemes theyre sitting around unused untill one glorious day i'l start working on em.
If it's not Out of Production, i also stick to my local store. Not a big spender, but at least i'm loyal

I buy most of my minis from ebay. I like buying poorly painted minis and strip them(rediuosly easy to do.) I'm all about getting a good deal.
I browse eBay occasionally, and buy some models if they are significantly cheaper (25% or more), unpainted and the seller has 97%+ score. 'Pro' painted models are never any good. Really, I saw a 'Pro' painted rhino for £80! What a rip off.

I don't buy from ebay the local comic book store sells warhammer models pretty cheap here twenty percent off all warhammer models. Sometimes thirty percent off around the holidays.
