I was recently asked by my local GW store manager if I would be happy to come in and spend my Saturday taking a painting masterclass for all the kids.......
Now I am always happy help others where possible will always try to do so.
However I live a fair way from the store, very rarely visit it and I have to spend 1/2 hour driving there, then park all day and then there is my spare time I am devoting so I thought it would only be right to ask how much they intend to pay me towards travel expenses, parking, lunch and just general time. I thought maybe a slight discount on any stuff I brought on the day perhaps??? .............. Not a bloody chance they expect me to pay for my own deisel, car parking, and food AND give up my valuable spare time, of which I get little, to basically make them money in a round-a-bout way. They even tried to play on my ego with little gems like "your an amazing painter the kids could learn loads from you" and "they will be very dissapointed your not doing it they thin you are" So basically the manager has signed me up to do this thing without me even agreeing to it.
As they think they can take the p*** out of me I have turned round and said well I want £20 per hour non negotiable. Apparantely GW is both a business and a charity that accepts donations but never gives back....sort of like a really crap Robin Hood (oh and they are from Nottingham as well)
I have since also made a formal complaint about him to head office....bloody cheek of it
good thing you wrote a complaint, i f**king would as well.

Honestly filling a complain about someone been stupid is too much for me.I would either ignore him or say to his face that i want something in return. He doesnt give it no harm done. After all he didnt force you to it.I understand you feel angry about it though but i wouldnt go to such lenghts.
I dont expect that he will loose his job or anything but if he does it would be a bad thing for asking something stupid.
Praise be to the Emperor!!
"they will be very dissapointed your not doing it they thin you are"
That to me is the same as saying they already committed him to the role and told everybody but him that he was doing it. It implies to everybody that he's already agreed, and makes him look to be at fault for backing out. I would be irate as well. Unless I just started telling everybody that: "Yeah, I'm giving a workshop. You wouldn't believe what GW is giving me to do it!"
That would make me feel better about it.
The manager is attempting to use emotional blackmail to coerce you into donating your time and resources into becoming a sales attraction for his store. This isn't just impolite, it's a form of harassment and is unethical. You were right to make a formal complaint. If this manager is using emotional blackmail on customers, imagine how he might be treating staff!
Emetional blackmail...Wow!!!I honestly believe that he is just a plain fool.I dont even think he told anybody about triying to hire MrDee(especially the children).
You just give a liar and a fool too much gredit for a failed attempt at making some profit
Anyway if it hurts MrDee's feelings that much then he did well to file that complaint, but i believe most people should just ignore those kinds of fools and just move along.
Praise be to the Emperor!!
Yes my feelings are hurt....I cried myself to sleep that night.
It's all very well saying ignore him, and usually I wouldn't for something like this however............I have already complained about this guy to head office for absolutely aweful customer service, which of course you weren't aware of, I purchased a Slaanesh Lord on boobmonster around xmas and the shield was cracked in half so on the same day I took it back and said I wanted either a replacement or my money back I was told by this manager that is was not his problem the customer services telephone number was on the website.......a complaint was made, I got a massive apology from GW, a replacement model and a £20 voucher.
Since he has taken over the shop the amount of people in there has been in steady decline, or so I am told by my friends that live nearby, so I could have sat idley by left it all drift over my head, but this guy is obviously not doing his job correctly and if everyone sits by and "ignores" it, it will continue. If I treated clients like that in my line of business I would have claims against me left right and centre.
Had it been anyone else I would have done the thing for free..........
OFC i didnt, and in that case i would have done the same.I couldnt have known his general disposition towards his job, neither that there were past problems.I have already complained about this guy to head office for absolutely aweful customer service, which of course you weren't aware of
Praise be to the Emperor!!
I dunno, Pilot, it did kind of seem like there was an underlying insult toward MrDee in your prior comment, so I'd say his response seemed like it may have been aggravated.
As for this idiot of a manager, keep complaining, get the employees to complain, get people who've been leaving the shop to complain. Then he'll get fired and maybe have to start as an assistant manager again elsewhere, hopefully the manager over him will be as bad as he is.
