Well as a avid veteran hobbyist, like many of my kind I have avoided creating a a space marine army (well i do have Iron Warriors) due to the large number of people who already play them. But after the film and game and reading chapters due I'm really tempted to start a Ultramarine army! Is anyone else finally come to see the boys in blue as quite cool instead of G.W poster boys?
I AM BOOMER!

I got into Ultramarines donkeys years ago, when the shoulder trims were yellow and the guns red. Then GW brought out that bit of fluff where Calgar smacked down an Eldar Avatar, and I converted all mine to a DIY chapter. The film didn't inspire me to paint them back, but then again I havn't read any of the novels.
Jager bombs. Very efficient at wiping out friend or foe.
Sorry for been blunt, but not me.I got sold to my dark angels by the first time i look at our company master model .
Praise be to the Emperor!!
I was tempted after seeing the movie, though I quickly got to my senses, but now I really want to start Blood Ravens after playing the the DOW games...
5000p. High Elves
I already had Ultramarines, always liked them, always will. Least arrogant of the lot if you ask me. Besides, I like the colour.
Yeah, I have to agree with Pilot on that- they're probably the MOST arrogant. Just look at the little bit about how "all the other chapters look up to them" and what have you. Last I checked, the Ultramarines sat out most of the Heresy and swept in at the last minute to play hero with a FRESH LEGION OF REINFORCEMENTS. Well yeah, of course you can spread your doctrine across the galaxy and seem to be everywhere at once when you show up with a full 10,000 rested marines while your brothers were all beating each other bloody while waiting for you.
I wish that someone other than Matt Ward (we'll get to him later) had written the core of the Marine fluff. Perhaps Abnett. Then maybe I'd play them, if someone picked up on how much of a conspiracy that seems to be
"Of course we'll wait around and let them all fight each other. When the Empire is weak, nobody will be able to oppose our fanatical regime"
and painted the Ultramarines as the Waffen SS of the Empire, sweeping in after the Emperor was dead to continue his message, albeit now skewed with fanatical zeal.
I never started the Blood Ravens army, or Ultramarines. The closest that I ever came to playing Codex was the Black Templars, but even then I eventually swapped for a DIY chapter. My friend plays Soul Drinkers from their series of books, and it's not only a beautiful army on the table (purple, with bone and gold livery), but being based on the Space Wolves, it's also very effective.
I've also fancied starting a 'Brotherhood of the Snake' army, but will most likely be starting an IG or Grey Knight force. I'll never have any love for the Ultramarines, and I certainly don't want to be lumped in with Matt Ward's overzealous fanboyism for the SMurfs.
No... Resoundingly no... For 2 reasons.... One I can't stand the smurfs and 2. I can't stand smurfs
