So I am thinking of going to a Warhammer 40k Tournament. I have been looking at the schedule and Adepticon is really close to me. Has anyone gone before? I have never done anything like this so its a bit intimidating . Thanks.
Armies: 40k: Imperial Guard, Orks Fantasy: Skaven
Hey buddy, if its your first tournament just go there without any expectations. Your first game will be intimidating until you realize you are just playing a game of 40k. Make some new friends, but beware there are a few out there that take things a little too seriously... If you let people know its your first tournament, they will usually be accomodating and help you out a little. If you comment on their painting/modelling im sure you will make people happy and have a good time, good comments ofcourse not negative ones
Decide before hand the type of tourney you want to play.
If you think you are the dogs bollocks, then by all means, play to win and fight for the top tables, but yeah, its not a fun time on the top tables, its a whole different feel, so be warned. The games played on the top tables, are not played for the fun of it.
But if you're just taking a fun army to play and meet new peeps, thats good too, but you need a different mind set for it.
When I was in the tourney scene here a good few years back now, when the GTs were GTs and not crap, I would try and play ruthless to pass the heats so that I could qualify for the finals. Then in the finals I would chill out and play more laid back, and would often find my self on the bottom tables during the final.. but meh, that was just how I liked it.
I would suggest, that if you want to do your best and want to be in the top however many places you want to be in, take your A-Game and your Ruthless hat and go for it.
I don't know if thats your thing though, so...
If its not, then just take an army you like and go to play games for the fun, and take in the good parts of a tourney experaince. And if you come across a gamer on the mid to lower tables who thinks hes all that, (But actually isn't) and is a complete bell end, pack your stuff up and get a pint before your next game. If you're there for the fun, sod playing against the gamers who aren't fun to play against.
