Hi guys, just recently got an army of wood elves but can't decide on colour theme, and ideas/suggestions encouraged
Uhhh...Maybe, Green? All kidding aside, I did my wife's Wood Elves in pink and burgundy with acetate fairy wings. They are very translucent and everyone that has seen them has wanted me to print them some wings. She loves fairies and just wanted to have her elves with wings - so what's wrong with that?
So, go ahead and come up with any background fluff you what to do any color scheme you like. The main goal is to love what you have created and it is no fun playing an army that you just don't love the look of.
Choose a season and run with it.
Welcome to the forum! We actually have a Wood Elf section on here, where you probably should have posted this, but no worries.
As far as a color scheme goes, it depends on what you want to do with them. An "all Elf" army with lots of Eternal Guard could definitely go in a winter theme, whereas an army with lots of cavalry and forest spirits could do a spring-time theme and represent the Wild Hunt. Summer and Fall would have lots of tree spirits too, and I think that the spirits look best in Fall colors, although orange on Elf tunics seems a bit strange to me (red and brown/burgundy looks good though).
Ultimately, it's your army, paint it however you want. Personally my Wood Elves have a very dark and brooding feel, with lots of dark, natural colors and tribal tatoos. I wanted to explore the darker and more feral side of their spirit (they've gone from tree-huggers to apathetic forest guardians in the more recent books), while also adding in their real-world roots as a more Celtic/Druidic society.
Whenever you do decide to start painting them up, be sure to post some pictures, I'd love to see them!
seasonal elves are alot of fun, maybe try a fall into winter theme or something along those lines. Or a marsh theme, beach theme, swamp... they will always use colors that blend with their surroundings, so find a location/ season and all the colors will fall into your lap
