i am starting to warm up to IG because i have heard some good stuff about them...but wut do you guys think of them...they have weaker armour(by the looks of it) and they are not as avanced as most of the other races (besides the orks)..so why do you think they are good or bad?

Very good at standing and shooting. 1 lasgun is crap but when u have 100 of them shooting it is ok. the tanks are cool, even conpared to the SM tanks. 2 leman russes for the cost of 1 Landraider. you can do some cool convertions with a coldone and a roughrider.
with the 4 edition the got a bit crapper cos of the 7Leadership and having to pass one if u need to not shoot at the nerest squat. but then again the new tank rules make a leman russ better and better. and then there the super heavys like the baneblades. (its got about 20 shots when it is advancing).

The IG seem pretty cool. I play CSM and I have never fought as or against IG. But I have seen their models and they are cool and I have read battle reports that went their way in very cool fashions! I could get on board with owning a small army of them(I'm kinda cash strapped). Good luck with your choice!

You may not want to take up IG if you are low on a budget. For about 1 platoon of IG it costs around $30-$40, not to mention the tanks you'll need, the heavy weapons squads, etc.,etc. I would go with Space Marines since you have a small budget.

I have just started Guard and I love them. I got dragged into this game by Marines but have just gotten into Guard. A Guardsmen is the cheapest (point-wise) person in the game. The strength of Guard truly lies in the amount of heavy and special weapons they can take. One heavy wep and one special wep in each squad is awesome. Kills by lasguns are an extra bonus. Not to mention that you can make a full platoon of heavy weapons, that is at least 6 heavy weapons, as many as 15!!! Also, the tanks are the limbs of the Guard, while the infantry is the backbone. The mighty Basilisk rains shells down on top of hiding units, while the different variants of the Leman Russ can take out both tanks and infantry.

Caution:If you are looking into close combat, do not get into Guard, only a couple of units are okay. Guardsmen are very brave, but they cannot stand up to Space Marines, Chaos, Orks, and Tyranids in close combat.

Guard is the best shooting army in the game. If you like shooting, then come here. Good luck and have fun!

They rock, just for the fact that by the time they actually get to your army their numbers will be reduced significantly enough to either shoot down and kill meelee wise... or just shoot down.

Gotta love the artillery... hmm hmm good.

As a full time IG player I would not recommend getting into them, if your budget is somewhat small. It will cost $300 just to be in tournaments, but with 40/40 you may be able to get away with.
If Wolves were meant to fly, wouldn’t the Emperor have given them wings?
