Hey guys, wasn't sure where to post this so I thought i'd put it here. I'm looking to start Warhammer table top after Christmas, but the thing is i'm really, really torn between armies because of a few factors.
One being how much would it cost me to build a half decent (by which I mean varied) army of said type, and two being opinions on armies. Here are my thoughts so far (Bear in mind I can only choose one)
Beastmen - They look amazing, their style really strikes out to me and I'd love being able to have a shamanistic type of army. Yet the units look like that they're going to feel the same.
Dark Elves - After reading the first 3 Malus Darkblade books, I've just learned to love them, their sadistic personality thats all their is to it, I love them.
Skaven - I've played Rogue type characters in MMO's for years, and building an army full of back stabbing, greed driven rats? That helps hit the nail on the head for me.
Necrons - Gonna sound weird, but I like them because they're quite bleak. The Uniform style of them, and the Necron Lords ability to resurrect his units make me feel like I can make some mistakes, and it's nice to have a forgiving mechanic as a newbie. But I've been told there's a lack of variety in the units?
Tyranids - I've played some Dawn of War 2, and I know it's not like table top, but I like the type of units they have, and the lore behind them, although they do look somewhat expensive.
again, thanks for reading and any points in choosing an army both opinion wise and money wise would be appreciated.
For Fantasy, as far as trying to get something economically, you can find the Skaven Army half of the Island of Blood set fairly easily from Ebay, or buy the whole set and split with a friend. The Skaven models are a simpler version of the individual kits, but really very good sculpts and you will get a really good start for a third of the cost. From a power perspective, I think Skaven and DE are at the top end of the power curve currently.
I was thinking... back stabbing, greed driven rats
This is how everyone sees skaven, but does this actually reflect in the armybook? It's a swarm army yes, but is there anything in their rules that make em sneaky backstabbers?
If you ask me, "They look amazing" is enough info to me :p
