    40k Like Movies

So i am one of those people who take a lot of my inspiration from visuals. With my fantasy armies i have always found a ton of movies and tv shows to take a lot from. Thereis always a war movie with knights and monsters to watch fight. But with 40k i can only really think of 2 movies that have huge alien wars in it that seem anything like 40k. Most space movie have big space battles but not nessicarily a battle field like 40k would have. I dont care if they are animated or real people I just need something.

The 2 movies i can think of that are like 40k are:
    Starship Troopers
    Star Wars

What movies do you guys know of that have alien battlefield wars? I need some good visual juice to help me get through some painting.

    Thanks.

Shrug... Avatar (towards the end when they finally fight each other)

Every time I watch that film, I can't not want to write up IG infantry lists and plot futuristic human dominance in a universe not based on treehugging hippy propaganga.

edit: To be fair, not even the 40k movie: Ultramarines had a battlefield that seemed anything like 40k.

edit 2: start at the top of the list and work your way down -> Wikipedia: List of Science Fiction movies of the 2000s

There's some decent movies back in the 80s, 90s, and 10s too, but most of it seems concentrated in that decade.

Cant say that 40k or Starwars were anything to do with 40k honestly.

Starship troopers was spot on though (especially the first one)

Watch Alien 2 if you need inspiration for nids.

But generally there isnt much to compare really.I would throw in my 2 cents in video games especially on Starcraft 1,too many similarities there.

For what army are we talking about?

I think Chronicles of Riddick and Bladerunner accentuate the Imperium's technology quite nicely, that and doesn't the Necromongers have that hint of Nercon goodness in it?

I believe so, yeah. Although in small parts of those films, like the concussion-type weapons that the Necromongers use and the pulse weapons that the soldiers of Mecca, or in the case of Blade Runner the use of AI machines such as the androids, the Imperium and the Mechanicum of mars would rather die than have such heresies such as complete intelligent machines without a human component.

So in very small parts, sometimes they do exceed the technology of mankind in 40k, we do know that they do have the equal of some of the examples that I've mentioned before and most possibly more advanced but we don't know that because it wasn't mentioned in the fluff, but we know for sure that it also exists - its just not 'official'.
That, and the technology of some of the Imperium's far flung worlds are also not as advanced as that of the inner, more established colonies.

I think watching Ultramarines actually had a negative impact on my inspiration within the hobby. In most, if not all, aspects, it was terrible.
