Personally I think Dark Eldar are just about right. I'd like to see only 2 changes in the 4th ed codex Mandrakes get a champion and an option for splinter pistol/ccw armed warriors.
I woudn't mind them changing hellions or scourges a bit either, but as I nearly never us them that really isn't so important to me.
I seem to get a mixed opinion when talking to people about 50/50 as to wether DE are over powered or underpowered, it seems some people think they are horrendously powerful whilst others think they are nearly pointless. (Non DE players I mean). So whats your opinion?
I had to be honest and say I don't know. I have never played as; or against; them. I really like all I have read about them and they are destined to be my 2nd army. You just have to love the army of a race who's hatred of themselves and other's was so perfect and complete they gave birth to a new chaos power!
Plus, I think they have cool models and I have ideas for a cool paint scheme! :shifty:
Slightly overpowered. . . . with new Wych Weapon rules (sorry Astaroth, gotta disagree with you on this one), and new deployment rules.
But it is kinda balanced out with even more fragility on our Raiders, but. . . .
I voted slightly overpowered.
"And whoever wants to be a creator in good and evil, must first be an annihilator and break values. Thus the highest evil belongs to the greatest goodness: but this is--being creative."
~ Friedrich Nietzsche ~
I also voted slightly overpowered since they are just as good at busting tanks as they are at close combat. I think warrior squads shouldn't be able to have more than one dark lance. And ravagers, what a discustingly powerful vehicle. Even the weak armor is more than enough since you will usually get only a glancing hit anyway.
I also think that DE characters can be tooled up a bit too much. Combat drugs might need a slight tweak and the shadow field is damn near impervious.
The enemies of the Emperor fear many things. They fear discovery, defeat, despair and death. Yet there is one thing they fear above all others. They fear the wrath of the Space Marines!
i played vs the with my gaurd army, some points:
raiders go to damm fast - u get 2 - 3 shots at them at the most
wyches are just to good in close combat - they mascared 3 squads of my gaurd + i had 2 drop ordanace on the 4th squad to help them kill the wyches
my leman russes all got destroyed before turn 3
guess what - i lost
bust as i have played them before and had some diffren experences i would only vote slightly over powered
If it ain't broke, break it
Having played as DE i can say that they are NOT perfect. I never lost a game versus my ultramarine buddy.
HOWEVER...They cost more than an Imperial guard but drop just as easily. So to use that weakness against them just do something tricky. like hiding all your army behind or in terrain pop out and rapid fire with bolters... All you need is one good turn of shooting them and they are down. The archon is powerful. but i also think that its one model. i mean she can only kill like 5 models a turn...wether it be terminators, or grots. THe DE have weakness's
DE are a mixture. They have some really, REALLY good units for their prices--some may argue overpowered. Wyches are probably the most powerful CC units in the game, and the Archon is capable of becoming the most powerful HQ in 40k.
On the other hand, a lot of their units are ineffective or cost too much. People just don't seem to use them, either, unless they're doing theme, fluff, or whateve.
And a lot of their models are ass-ugly, but that's beside the point.
Fact of the matter is, the Dark Eldar are out of date. Because of their age, you really only see a few different configurations and that's sorta it--almost like Necrons. Granted, you see that with the newer lists, too.
Generally, the only DE I see in my area are ones built with the uber Archon in a raider/ravager, two squads of two darklances with 8 ablative wounds--err, I mean warrior squads, then a bunch of wyches in raiders ready to do an awesome jump out and hand your lungs to you maneuver. It's effective, but a one trick pony, which is what DE may be.

So, I really can't tell one way or the other. I only play DE as they are my first army. Now remember, at the time of this posting, I just won a SOB battle. Overpowered? I don;t think so, as most of my army can die within the first couple of turns. But maybe that is the point (:-)) <---Evil smile if you can't tell. But a majority of my games are lost by my mistakes or over confidence, or ignorance, or over estimation of enemy/own troops.
Help the kin TAKE your soul, I mean, take your soul...
I play Vassal. I'm in V40K Open Ladder.
Is it sad... funny... depressing... to see Dark Eldar players 4 years ago talking about what would be in the 4th ed Codex?
