Alright. So as many of you may know, Im new to this system, and frankly, new to the hobby as well. Now; I live in a VERY diversified area. I mean, lets face it; if it exists, chances are, SOME ONE in los angeles knows/plays/participates in it. This post might be slightly off topic, but not really. I mean, the way I see it, finding other players ((instead of just trying to split your conciousness into two personalities in order to battle yourself)) is a significant part of the hobby. Aside from 3 people who I know, who all live very far from me ((well, not that far.. but lugging around 50 models all worth together $200+, PLUS the labor put into them.. on a bus.. its tricky, at very least)) until I get a car. Aside from that fact, I'll put it frankly: I live in a jewish area, where lots of "athletically challenged" young people my age live, and squander thier lives on the same things I do: Anime, porn, models, and video games. So all this in consideration, why is it so hard to find people who play WH40k?!? I mean.. its not really that obscure of a pass-time, considering 10 miles from me, there's a GW shop. So one must assume that either A) Im simply not making the right connections, or WH40K players are very... "reserved" and cautious as to who they talk about WH40K about. So for the love of god, will you people tell me if you are or ever had that problem when starting out? Also, if you live in the san fernando valley ((sherman oaks, van nuys, panorama city, encino, etc, etc)), PLEASE contact me. Please?
i never tell people i play. go to the store and ask around for people near to you.quote of the century.I live in a jewish area, where lots of "athletically challenged" young people my age live, and squander thier lives on the same things I do: Anime, porn, models, and video games
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>i know, in todays world, the weak are protected, so evolution is now non-existant for humans. To keep the race moving forwards, there should be tests to see if you are good enough to have kids- k-tana</div>
Try to find a gaming club, should exist atleast one.
Dont know how you're supposed to find one though :\
Maybe put up a sign or something in the GW store with phone numbers or such. Add the bit about athletically challenged individuals. With the amount of GW stores in California one would think it would be like shooting carp in a barrel with a scatter-gun.
And this is America so not having a car is pretty much like strapping a large 1000 lb weight onto your ass and trying to walk down to teh Stop and Go.
<not just any carp...Magicarp.>
hehe, thi first rule of 40k:
"don't talk about 40k"
i'd play you, but i'm in north cali.
Take my words with a grain of salt, i am not the tactical genius i think i am!
Your best bet, chill at a local GW store or Rogue Trader (I prefer Rogue Traders, generally they're bigger around here, and have large tables to play at).
Find a place doing an escalation league, those are GREAT ways to get in touch with other gamers, and a good way to gain experience in army building and tactics.
Hell try just about any hobby shop in your area. The place I go to is actualy a comics / book store with a game room in back and a small gaming section in the front corner. (It's great, all the old women shuffling around the Romnce Books see a buncha strange kids go into a secret back room with backpacks on and get all suspicious)
Well, if you live in a middle of the desert with a palm tree as your closest friend... well, then you are just in bad luck.
Though it DOES help to logg into communites like this one and post on regional forums.
But if there isn't many players in your area when you are young then it can make you feel "Why am I spending money on this hobby"
Yet there are non in southern california. For me its a 3 hour drive to the nearest GW store (that may explain why I've never been in one). But as to not being able to find people to play I've never had any problem with that.Originally posted by Pyre@Nov 5 2004, 06:55

00:12:50-) (+Hard_Aun|sleepage) anyway, three months back i got out of bed and came downstairs loud, fast and naked with a club
You could walk around with a sign over your neck that says "I play Warhammer $40,000 (pun intended), If you play it too talk to me." I'm sure you'll find someone.
