im a noob and want to know what army is good for me im thinking aling the lines of tau necrons and chaos can anyone give me some adivce on these armies
DEATH TO THE FALSE EMPEROR!
I'm not quite sure what you mean, but I'll list some dis/advantages of each force(to the best of my knowledge anyway)
Necrons: Very simple to paint, not very much wargear management required, can
get back up after death, excellent leadership value on all models.
Disadvantages: if you lose 3/4 of your models, as defined by the codex, then
the rest of your army will phase out; not much customization
Tau: Advantages: Very good shooty army, powerful guns, one of the game's best
Disadvantages: Almost pathetic in hand-to-hand without Kroot support.
Chaos: Advantages: Customizable like nothing else, HUGE selection of wargear,
Bloodthirsters, not too many models needed to fill points
Disadvantages: Limited numbers in an army
That's all I could think of, not having played with these armies but knowing the codices decently well. However, IMO I think that Chaos is the best for a noob, since the codex caters to all sorts of playing styles.

I would say Necron, because of pretty much everything Arkhan Land just said. They are real easy to take care of. You dont have to learn as much to be able to use them effectively.
Necrons for the above reasons, or if you really want an easy time just "cheese out" on an army: eg. Demonhunters with nearly every model on the board is a Terminator, or Alaitoc Eldar with 4 squads of rangers and 2 wraithlords.
However, if you are looking for respect, go for necrons or try out something nobody else has got. Alternatively, go cheese crazy and win/loose all the time, and people won't want to play you.
FROM THE BOOK OF THE IMPERIUM:
1. Thou shalt not go on a panty raid in the Adaptus Soritus temple.
2. Thou shalt not flirt with Howling Banshees. They are the enemy.
3. Thou shalt not refer to Battle Sisters as Bolter Biatches
4. Darth Vader isn’t the son of Abaddon
5. Thou shalt not reassemble a Necron into a washing machine
I'd stay away from Chaos if you're just starting out. The Codex is so complicated its painfull. Took me about three months to get it all sussed out.
chaos codex.... damn its bad.
I'd go with necrons. They are very simply and ever very easy modles to paint.
ok im not getting chaos for reasons that u guys have told me what about eldar are they good guys im getting a codex today and elder was my second choice are they good and somewhat easyy to learn
DEATH TO THE FALSE EMPEROR!
Points ona ll three I think a few guy's mightve missed, no to tread on any toes here.
1: Madly customizable with 9 Different Variants you can play. WorldEaters,Deathguard,Thousand Suns,Emperor's Children, Nightlords,Alpha Legion,Iron Warriors, Word Bearers,Black Legion And all in one Codex, something Space marines can't say. Also have the newest Codex of the three, so your upt o date for alonger time.
2: They don't HAVE to be complicated, you can have Vanilla Chaos just Like Vanilla Space Marine. Plus you get the famed resilience of Space Marines, WHich Necrons have, but the phase out thing sucks.
3: Large Selection of troops/models so your army can really be your army. With Necrons you've got a grand total of lesse,8 different model/units plus the two C'tan and the Monolith(Both are VERY resilient HQ's and Vehicle though). And With Tau, about the same.
Bottom Line: Yes they can be VERY complex, but you can also take it on a bit at a time with the way the rules are for them,if you have anyone to help you get the gist of it, my vote is for Chaos.
1: VERY, VERY shooty, especially witht he new rapid fire rules. If you look at the base gun they have you might be able to call them the best shooty army int he game.
2: They just don't shoot like Necrons, Space Marines, Chaos. And a serious lack of heavy weapons.
3: Wtih Battlesuits, it is VERY easy to make an army that can be yours, with a distinctive feel.
4: believe it or not, they take some real getting used to tactically.
Bottom Line: Dynamic, cool looking army to field, with a varying degree of simplicity or complexity for painting. However WARNING WARNING WARNING, if you're playing Tau, you WILL have to avoid everyone you play trying to get into CC with you, if they do well...It's very easy for one Assault/Raptor/Flayed One?Slugga boy, etc. Squad to tear through every one of your firewarriors. You can't win in CC, and that may make you feel badly about the army, whne it's just...a unique play style. I say no on the Tau.
1: SERIOUSLY resilient units with devestating poer/mobility for the whole army. THat and the Getting back up thing would surely make you enjoy the army more when starting out.
2: BUT, the "Phase out rule" kind of ofrces you to spend points yo may or may not want to on lots of warriors, who just aren't as versatile as alot of other troop types.
3:Gauss Weapons, everything witha gun can take out Armor, a definite plus for yo as a beginner so you don't have to worry a big deala bout specilaizing in anti Armr/Dreadnought capability.
Bottom Line: Simplistic to paint, build, and play. Truly an Army that you really aggrivate players with(I know I get aggrivated lol). An army that gives the inexperienced general some room to play, But the problem I see alot and feel about the army myself is the simplicity, as you play more armies and get intot he game, you might find yourself chafing at the restrictions of the Small army list/Small number of unit types available to you. If you don't go Chaos, Necrons a very good choice.
i welcome and rebuttals, replies.
I would go with the good old Space Marines. They are a little more complicated with the new codex out but still not hard to manage. And they are getting all sorts of new models in the coming months, some very cool ones at that.

I'd go with necrons simply because their so easy to kill people with,
you just blast away fix your guys, blast away some more, respawn your guys and ya their hard to beat!
Damn straight homies! Of course tau kill SOB then they go on a pantie raid
