I've been playing Tau for a while now and i really enjoy them. However, I was reading my codex about O'Shovah and his special rules and found that i had a dilema. Is it worth not having Kroot, Gun Drones squadrons, and Etherals. for the bonus of Ork fighter and a commander that can take a ven. dread?
I think that it is best to take the Oshovah nclave as a fluff army - do not expect it to perform as well or even in the same way as a normal tau list, but expect it to perform in a way that may take your opponent by surprise

In short as an army its horrific, though not as much a challenge as a kroot merc army. However if you want a repuation as a hardcore, fluff mad gamer then Farsight is for you.
Small games its less of an issue as you would not likely have large numbers of the limited units. Just don't waste points ork fightering your fire warriors, just the suits. Extra 5 points to be a gaurdsmen isn't really worth it, not like you are really going to win against anyone in assualt..except that most infamous of assault armies the Imperial guard. Even then they will outnumber you totally.
Also don't think that the upgrade is going to make you good in close combat..it just makes you less useless whne it comes to the suits as bypassing saves and numbers of attacks is more important for a close combat force than good Strenght and Iniative. Against orks and tyranids you would be alright but you really shouldn't be assaulting them.

If your tired to get raped by marines in CC O'shova and is retenue can really deal a are blow, Ws5 S6 and monstrous creature mean no save and 10 models as combat resolution..... having bodyguards with WS 4 and I4 helps vs marines as well....
plus i don't use kroot in my tau army neither gun drone SQUADS, so you can still get them with the wargear.
stealth suits are efective vs guardsmen with that upgrade.

Contrary to popular belief, a Farsight army can be a very viable army. I have an 1850 and a 1500 point Farsight list that I've been running for the local campaign, and I'm 5-1-0 with them. People just see the 0-1 restrictions on Hammerheads, and think that they've lost already. Alot of people also think that for some reason they have to buy that Ork Fighter upgrade. I don't buy it for a single person, beyond Farsight's bodyguards, who are forced to buy it.
