My 40k Oponents

I have a bit of a problem, all my regular 40k opponents have decided they hate the new rules and will only play fantasy or 3rd edition. Ok, fantasy is great, but after so long I want to get back to 40k and use the new rules, I don't want to do 3rd edition because then I can't use any of the updates or the new marine codex or anything.

Does or has anyone else had this problem with their opponents refusing to play the new rules? What can I do about it, it seems that no matter what I say they just dislike the new rules and refuse to play them, there must be some way to convince them otherwise. They haven't even got the new rulebook, all they know is what is publically available plus what I told them from my rulebook... :(

show them the new rules as much as possible...they are basically the freaking same...plus every army has certain advantages now that they should have had the whole time which make the armies characterful and such...if they dont want a characterful army then your stumped and have to find new opponants

Pfft. "I don't Wanna play the new rules because I don't like them"

Can they be anymore... childish then that?

Your friends are very weird, sure I know people that plays 2nd ed but they do it for fun, they are old vets who loves the game. Though THEY also play useing the new rules.

not playing the new rules 'cause he can't rhino rush you anymore
One of the primary thing they thought of in the new rules was that you shouldn't be able to rhino rush.
Okay we still got 2 races that still can rush with transport:
Dark Eldar and Orks.
Though before all could do a transport rush, now 2. Sure you can jump out and assault from a Land Raider but that cost much in point and only useing it for transport is a waste of points.

Try to change your friends minds and give them new tactics.
The New Rhino Rush goes like this (depending on what kind of board you play on):
12" forward behind cover. Next turn, 12" forward and deploy your troops behind the rhino, though only if you are in range of the enemy.

Thats the basic, now if you unload like 40 marines onto the enemy HE is going to have some trouble. ;)

/Cheers

or wait until they get a new codex and are excited for 40k again
I was kinda hoping the new marines would do that, apparently their rules are now 'strange' too... They like some of it, but not other parts, and the cool new models are 'too detailed'. Isn't that what we want?

I'll have to try and convince them that the new rules are pretty much the same as the old ones except with minor improvements, that could work in time. Waiting for more new codexes and armies they have been looking forward to is going to take a long time... My nids haven't seen battle for several months already. :( I thought when SoC ended it might be time to try out new rules, but no they insist on playing 3rd...

Thanks for the replies, I will use some of these points soon to try and convince them again, hopefully they will see the light.

i happen to like the new rules even though some of them do not help out my orks at all.
but i do not have this problem at my local store.
maybe if your gaming buddies gave the new rules a try they may be more inclined to do them.
good luck.

maybe you could use the new rules and they can use the old rules, and when youve ownedthem all with your rapid fire and highly motivated tanks, they'll get the message that its not all that bad

I remember the exact same wanker attitude to the 2nd Ed, then to the 3rd Ed, same with warhammer - it just takes some people longer than others to get used to not being allowed to do certain no-brain combos anymore

Another idea that you might want to try..and this one would be fun for you. Lure new players to the game. Those who can't play Teach! Find some noobs, feed them all the fluff they can stand, show them cool models and bring them into the hobby. Not only will you get some new blood into your gaming pools but then you get to be the old wise veteran gamer!

I'm the veteran at my store, and it sucks. Just look at my record. It's no fun wining all the time.

I would be happy playing only fantacy, I think it's a much better game. :hmm:

edit:what armys do your friends play?

I like the new rules. Although the new Space Marine codex basically ruined all Space Marines IMO because now they can't have Blood Angels or Space Wolves, The new rules balanced the game for most part, the reason why DE and Ork can still do the rush is because not many people play those races and this is a hope to get people interested in them by giving them a slight advantage over the enemy. They need to stop whining though because the rules made it more realistic. I don't think you would shoot at Jim-Bob way back there when you need to shoot at Billy-Bob ten feet in front of you. I think they did a great job with the new rules and your friends are just sad losers because the rules now don't benefit them adn they can't win now.

Yes you can... not sure where you heard this but it is incorrect, why would GW make FAQs for Space Wolves, Blood Angels and other variant chapters if they were phasing them out? :hmm: I think the only chapters had specialised rules in codexs are the salamanders (used to be in Armageddon codex, however now they are simply a diveregtn shapter) same with white scars I think.. not sure though but I do know that BA and SW are still palyable, I regularly play SW and sometimes A BA player and we've used the new rules :hmm:

As for your friends they sound a bit pathetic (no offense) its only a game, who cares if they dont like a few rules because they dont favour there armies. ouve got to adapt to the new rules, which IMO are much better than 3rd Ed.

My gaming club doesnt play new rules... those bums. And man let me tell you it sux. I think you should convince them by black mailing them! hmmm. steal their miniatures and give one model back for every game they play 4th ed. that way when they have all their models back they will have only played 4th ed for a month and theyll be used to it.

I agree in the beginning it might seem cool winning all the time in turn 3 or something but eventually the ''batlle spirit'' is gone due you already know wo is gonna win. I even challanged the pro gamers at our clubs and am able to beat them (Altough with alot of effort!) I prefer a long lasting game NON POWERGAMING and lose then just keep winning all the time. I aint a real veteran or something but just a good player I know its different then a veteran but I know how it feels to win all the time and it gets eventually pretty boring. try to organize a multiplayer batlle like 5 vs 5 15 000 points that should be fun for you because your team wont only rely on yo uwhile playing split the veterans evenly altough it is anti fluf and start playing a heck of a batlle!

As far as I know if it is a games workshop store they HAVE TO play the new rules. At my local gaming club the man wo is employeed there has taught us the first step of the new rules before the new rules eve ncame out (when the faq was there we immediatly started playing the new rules) They are just a bunch of whiners if they refuge to play with the new rules. Those are not worthy of the title Warhammer player. Like others said try to attract new players. In my gaming club I have ''recruited'' 3-4 players to play with us. Since I came there and started playing with friends and the group expanded we have grown from 2 to 10 men that come around the 2 weeks at least 1 time it is fun because you will c that the play different even tough they might have the same army as some1 else you know. (Even better try to get a friend wo will be allied with you base your army a bit on multi player batlles so you guys always have a slight advantage wat to do)
