A thread I recently posted in was locked down because it contained other forums in the Wargaming Community. I find this rather distastefull, and frankly, tryanical from the Librarium Online managment. Why should Librarium Online be toted as the "Best" forum for wargaming? We all know that other forums are more active, and have more content, so why the false pretenses of pride?
When Phobius locked the thread, he also went through and edited all the comments so that the names of the Forums were "Cheap Imitations of LO". What? The forum that was dedicated to Eldar has been around far longer than LO. No other forum, baring the horrible Gamesworkshop Forums, will ban other forums from being posted. This is a COMMUNITY! We all share the same passions, so why must they be "competitors"? Why should they not be viewed as fellow wargamers? I am a poster on multiple forums, and I would guess that 50%+ of the people here also post on multiple forums. There is no need to try to hog people, they will post here simply because they enjoy it. By banning other forums, you are in fact discouraging people from posting here.
Other forums have differant things to offer. For instance, the majority of the rumors for Warhammer come from the Dakka Dakka forums. Many tactics for Eldar come from the EO forums.. Many kroot posters come from Kompletly Kroot. If Librarium Online cannot hold their own posters, than quite frankly, you have nothing that I want. I am sure that I will be banned for this post, and it will be edited so that nothing remains, but I honestly do not care. Until Librarium Online can prove that they have something to offer, and will not try to be a little pig in the mud, than I will not post here again.
Well, it's a rule cut in stone on LO, been there for as long as I can remember.
This forum is, technically, the best one out there. But as for members and content? I don't know.
If LO would allow links to other wargaming forums, I do think that the other wargaming forums would link back to us in return, perhaps giving us more members then the ones we 'loose' to the other forums?

I think this (opinion) has just proved Yentz' point.

I think it's the fact that no other Warhammer forum has this rule (if one does I haven't found it yet) that prevents this. If you expect something in return for allowing links to other forums then your expectations are way too high.
All the old Specialist Games resources are currently being uploaded at the Tactical Command forums, and you can find them here: http://www.sg.tacticalwargames.net/fanatic/.
That is my belief. For instance, 40konline does not have a very good Fantasy section, while Librarium online does. Librarium Online could take advantage of this and possibly get a few new members for their fantasy.
I think the generai idea is that you come to Librarium Online to enjoy what Librarium Online has to offer. If you want what the other forums have to offer, got to the other sites. It's not like all the gaming forums are all working together for the common good of GW.Each site is completely independent of the others. It's rather insulting to come to a forum that somebody has spent a great deal of time, effort, and money to build and start telling everybody about how great some other forum is.
Ha! You posted again. I'm just teasing.Originally posted by Yentz@Dec 21 2004, 17:15
... I will not post here again.
You have to remember that L.O. is not a public place. It belongs to someone. That person used their time, effort, creativity, etc to product this place. Everyone is here by invitation and the understanding that they agree to a certain set of rules. The rules are made by the owner. Like many parents have said, "It's my house and my rules."
So, I don't want to say like it or leave it because I value everyone who visits L.O. as long as they live by the rules. You do have the option to respectfully email any MOD, member, or the owner or the forum and ask to change the rules.
Your problem was you chose not to follow those rules. You didn't ask for an exception, ask for permission, or even ask to change the rules. You just broke them.
I understand if you have a problem with the way the MOD removed the links, but he was in the right. You broke the rules and must live with the consequences of doing so, even if you don't like them. Perhaps he was in a particularly bad mood, maybe his sense of humor fell flat for you. Who knows?
I doubt you'll get banned for complaining about it as long as the exchanges remain respectful by ALL persons involved.
In the future though it is: like the forum as it is, work within the guide lines to change it, or don't stay. I, for one, hope you choose to stay.
If you do stay, you could start a thread in the 'Site and Forum Issues' forum about the whole idea of banning links to other forums. Then we can have a collection of opinions and maybe sway you to agree, or sway others to agree with you. Either way it's a good method to address the issue.
AAAAHAHAHAHAAAA *sniff* sorry, but really, don't sweat the system, it works. plus, it gives phobos a reason to lash out.
god i love reading his lashing.
but really, thats like asking your local g.w. to let you advertise for the g.w. the next town over in there store. do you really expect them to just lay down and let you? naw i say, naw.
Take my words with a grain of salt, i am not the tactical genius i think i am!
I know lots of sites that do not allow advertising or restrict it to specific areas. This is to stop people registering and putting a few posts all over the place with straight advertising for other sites, and that gets annoying quickly. I perfectly understand why LO and any other site has the rules, they seem fair to me and make sense. It isn't a big competition and LO probably won't lose members from a bit of advertising, I would say more than 50% of people as you suggested have joined multiple forums. But as someone else said the sites are independant and people go to a lot of work to make them, if you do not like the rules there are plenty of other sites. I will go to others to advertise then come back here for other posts as LO is a very good site, I would agree with Wickedrock that it is one of the, if not the best, site for overall GW stuff. Other army specific ones may provide more for some things though.
Nice attempt at a parallel, but its not quite the same.
Nothing prevents you from going from 1 forum to another, and did you really come to this one for the promo?, didn't think so.
If you want to tell someone about another site, do it by email or pm, just to respect the work of the management.
This would destabalize the board, Old timers would have to get aquainted with the new ones. And other Old Timers would probably join other boards. I found this site looking at the Warp.Net isnt that good enough?Librarium Online could take advantage of this and possibly get a few new members for their fantasy.Other wise known as "Flaming with disrepectfull comments"I doubt you'll get banned for complaining about it as long as the exchanges remain respectful by ALL persons involved. Its not painfull once you get to know Phobos....He's unique how he deals with things....Each of the Moderators have their own quirky odd sense of humor.AAAAHAHAHAHAAAA *sniff* sorry, but really, don't sweat the system, it works. plus, it gives phobos a reason to lash out.Â* god i love reading his lashing.
