I was looking trough Ebay just now, and came upon a disturbing auction for a Necron army. It had the stats for every unit in the army (practically every unit in the codex) in the description! I know that can not be legal, and I was wondering if there is anything we can do about it, like contact GW.... I won't post the link untill I get an OK, as I don't want to get in trouble myself... Sorry if this...isn't allow
ed or something, I just think this is really wrong, and something should be done....
Off topic rant about how crapy the stuff is: The army composition is disturbing... 4 monoliths, 7 heavy destroyers, 1 wraith, 40 scarabs, 14 destroyers, and only 30 warriors to name the most disturbing parts.....in his "perfect" 5070 pt list, theres only 83 necron units...
I'd report it, not because he is breaching copyright but because he is arrogant enough to assume he has written a "perfect" army list :p
Helper monkey, bring me beer and donuts
Do you have a GW near you? Could try telling them... Or just go to their website, im sure there's a "contact us" link...
Ha, I don't even have to play Necrons to know that that army list sucks! :p
Wow I can't believe someone would post all the stats! Maybe he thinks that newbie buyers will look at the stats and think that the Necrons are ownage, and then buy the army.
I really dont think that this would qualify as copyright infringement. After all, hes not claiming that he made up the stats, or selling the stats. All hes doing is posting the statistics (which are openly available) of the units that he's selling. Technically speaking, he's well within his rights to post the stats for units that he owns. How is this any different for creating army lists for our own units? As long as he credits that the stats came from GW or Warhammer 40k materials, he's technically within the letter of the law.
I noticed however, that he didnt post the w/l/d record of his army. Thats probably the reason he's selling it off. That is the stupidest list I've ever seen for a necron army. At that points level, he should be able to make it next to impossible for an opponent to phase him out. Heh.
Well with those stats, then a would-be Necron player wouldn't have to buy the Codex, thus reducing GW's profit, and really just about anything that reduces their profit is what they consider copyright infringement. :pOriginally Posted by Lord_Wallace
Why do you care? Don't be a rat just for the sake of it. Let the guy make his money and breach GW's rules --- who care's if he's a little arrogant or whatnot.
The day you sell out one of your fellow players over a corporation that has been bleeding all its players dry for years is the day "decent" players should lose respect for you.
This guy angers you, and you're going to tell on him? That's as mature as a pre-schooler.
