Ever Since I started playing Warhammer 40k, one question sprung to mind. This question is: Why does everything cost so much? At first I thought it was the material it was made out of. I was wrong. I looked for wholesalers of modelling plastic, and the price for 50 lbs. of raw material was 5 dollars. Your standard land raider weighs in at around 1-2 lbs, so it should cost them around 20 cents to produce. A land raider costs $55. Anyone see a problem? That is a 274 times the profit over the production cost. Wheras most companies produce a product and then sell their product at around 1-2 times of production cost plus expenses, they feel that it is neccesary to jack their retail prices to astronomical levels. I have never found the reason for this blatent greed. Post your potential reasons, I will prove them wrong.
Someone please close both of these.

The only reason I posted it was because I had done a search..
I think the reason is because they make more money selling the products at those prices. If there were more producers of warhammer models I'm sure the price would drop. And if we saturated the market then the price would drop until it was at market equilibrium. But as Games Workshop has a monopoly over their production, they'll charge the amount they'll get the most money for, as they are a profit organisation and not a charity one. They aren't charging $100 for a land raider because I assume hardly any would sell that way. At $55 dollars, many land raider units are still being sold. It's hard to explain it much simpler, but games workshop is not being mean or greedy, but is supplying the market at the price the market chooses.
You may prove me wrong. If you like I can try to give you better reasons via email or pm etc. I understand your confusion on why the prices are so high relative to the cost.
And quickly edit that rude comment you posted below or you will quickly get a bad reputation!
Why close them?
First: Your post is not an "****Urgent Question****" by any stretch of the imagination. A search using 'price' should net you plenty of similar threads.Second: Your analysis of the final cost of product is naive at best. Did you consider the initial cost of paying the artist of the mini, the cost of making a mold, the cost of employees of the company, the cost of the building, rent, utilities, insurance, advertising, packaging, shipping, research and development, and the many other expenses involved in production?Originally Posted by HellsAngelNo they don't. And Last: We close these price complaint threads for a reason. Every time the prices changes we get a deluge of threads about the price of whatever. They all end up the same. If you don't like the prices play another game.
