One of my freinds who has never really shown intrest in WH 40k took intrest in it a few days ago becuase they just got the Dawn of War games and really like them. He has played a few demo games with me and 2 other freinds with various races and missions and he want to build his own army now but doesn't know what race to play.
This next part is what he wrote down to ask you, hes been at his grandparents with no internet all weekend and this is the first chance I had to post it, I planned on doing it yesterday but couldn't.
"I cant choose between playing Tyranids or Eldar
I Like Tyranids but I find that no one likes playing vs. them around here in the GW or the club that recently started (We dont have any made tables yet but we have the space). All the lists take advantage of the Close Combat boards at the games workshop, charges are usually on first turn for Guants and Genestealers and if not definatly second turn. This would make alot of players not have fun battling me and if they arn't having fun neither am I.
I also like the Eldar, I know that they are in bad need of an update becuase their basic infentry weapon is crap under the new rules but 16 of them with fleet of foot makes it seem interesting to me. I also like their vehicals and Warp Spiders. The only draw back
is that they are so Frail with T3 and Sv +5 for basic troops.
Thank you for any advice"
Well, It really comes down to what you like. If you would prefer cc over the other aspects then its Tyranids. The Eldar is a race quite hard to master in the begining because their units prefer speed over armour and ther troops gotta be on the right place in the right time.
Its a matter of taste to me and I love Eldar so I would go Eldar
Ask your friend what he thinks is a better movie: Aliens or Star Trek.
Aliens: play tyranids
Star Trek: eldar
if he plays Starcraft, what's his favorite race and why. When all else fails i point people towards Nids. They are easier to learn, and Eldar are a frustrating list to learn to play with, people generally don't want to play an Eldar player, but will have a blast shooting bugs.
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
Why wouldnt people like playing against Eldar? I love to play against an well-constructed Eldar list because you never know whats coming against you
well the way to solve first and second turn charges is to play a larger board. 60 inch board is the best if you ask me. only the fastest units get second turn charge
Also, advise your friend if it's the guardians he is finding a problem in the Eldar list, tell him there are many variant lists that do not need the use of guardians. For example, a Biel-Tan army with lots of CC aspects such as Striking Scorpions or Howling Banshees, or an Alaitoc list with pathfinders and Aspect Elites. But the simple fact is Eldar do not rely upon blunt things like sheer toughness and good armour saves, they prefer other things such as Starcannons, speed, re-rolls etc.
