Ok I got chatting with a mate I know and he was talking about the era of GW's history with the bright red booted orcs and yellow speared greenskins (this is about 4th ed), this got me thinking of something. How many of us an remember this far back? I couldn't as I wasn't in the hobby then but I have seen the stuff from that edition and it is just bad.
One thing I do miss is the decent fluff, GW has sacrificed a lot of the codices and army books in favour of thinner and more rules orientated books. I have nearly all the army books from 4th - 5th edition for FB and looking through any of them for a few minutes and you learn alot more about the army that you would these days.
But I digress.. What I want to know is; Do you remember your first purchase of the GW hobby? My friend got a couple of blisters - £2 for four metal minis. He also got Ruglut's Orcs for £14 and had 18 metal minis in it. Myself I got a bretonnian squire blister, about £4 IIRC. (5th ed armies could ally, Brets worked with dwarfs).
My first purchases were the paint set with some of those click-together space marines, And a box of those old plastic All-in-the-same-pose-Orks.
I gave those space marines to a friend who collected those guys, since I only cared about the paints and the brush in the box.
I painted those crappy Orks just as crappy as they deserved to be painted (Like a total n00b). After A while (I got some decent looking models by that time) I tried toconvert them into something cool, but messed up. There was really NO way those uglies could be made cool. I blew them up with fireworks
The oldest thing I still have is the box of 16 Ork Boyz. (Not bought myself, got them for my birthday)

First for me was some Marine box. They where quickly removed for my box of Eldar Guardians with lasblasters and shuriken cats.
First thing was the original Space Hulk. Good Jebus I loved that game. I hope they're planning on reviving it soon, although the new termies would be too big for the corridors
Similar to chaosdude, my first purchase was a starter painter set, which had a clip on space marine and a non-posable chaos warrior. They were painted horribly (didnt add water to the paint - - u can just imagine how crappy it looked like). Now i dont even know where they are, probably hiding somewhere amoungst the boxes in the basement,,,,or it could just as easily be in the rubbish landfill. I was 8 years old then - - - but the crappy paintjob detered me from the hobby, until i was 16 years old. I took the hobby bak up when i was 16 - - -now im 17. My first purhcase when i was 16 was the tau battleforce.

Ragnar Blackmane and a box of five Space Marine. All disappeared somewhere now. The oldest model I still have are the Terminators and Genestealers from Space Hulk and a squad of nurgle space marines from about seven years ago.

I do have some old dwarfs, I got given them when I got into the hobby, and the longbeards have a number of varying weapons - flails, maces, axes, hammers, swords. Then there's the plastic dwarfs all the same but with different shield designs. ^_^
Wow... dwarfs with swords...
Not me, but my friend have an first edition Lord of Change.
That model is awsome.
Codex: Necrons. I needed it because I was cooperating with playtesting of the Epic: Armageddon (that was three years ago), and at the same time was writing an unofficial Necron supplement.
The first models I got were whatevers in the Cadian Battleforce....
But the oldest models I have are a few thousand points of Space Marine and Eldar stuff from the original Space Marine Boxed set.
