I was looking for a new hobby, and I found this. I'm all psyched to paint my ary and make it really hard to beat. There's just one tiny problem.... I don't have an army yet. I think the Space Marines are cool, but are they relly that good? If not what about the Orks? I was also wondering if you get Space Marines do you have to follow the paint scheme of which ever chapter you get? If not can you pick a name for your army to, or are they stcuk as Blood Ravens, Space Wolves, etc. If the army I should pick depends on how I want to play I would defintealy be an all out assault player.
In this case, I would suggest finding a retailer in your area that actually sells the game, and look at the material and find out what fits, most everything in the game (TO AN EXTENT) is customizable, so paint schemes colors and background history are your department.
For an all-out headlong charge, you might want Black Templars, Blood Angels or use the Trait system to make up your own Chapter.
Alternatively, go Chaos and start playing a Khornate army - these guys LOVE carnage.
Cool thanks for the help. I've decided to get a Space Marine army. And I will customize it with personal traits.
Tyranids are all-out assault, don't forget them.
They're also extremely customizable.
Since there are so many models they are also extremely expensive money-wise though and it will take longer to assemble and paint them.
But it is really neat to have 100+ models on the table - it truly is a swarm army and it's intimidating to your opponenets. Plus you have the advantage of playing something different from what everyone else is playing (I could be wrong about this but the nids don't seem to be the most popular. It seems as though everyone is playing the Space Marines)
if your after an army for assaulting dont go for tyranids try khorn they are awsome they got the bloodthirster, bloodletters, bezerkers, kharn the betrayer , they'd beat nids anyday!!!
Marines can be made pretty hard to beat because they have such an array of equipment at their disposal. The idea of coming up with your own chapter is a good one, just remember to come up with some background fluff to support the traits and disadvantages they have, makes it all look better.
