Since about 5 people a day are starting new armies and need advice what "race" to pick It would be nice to see how these projects are turning out?

Here are some questions to answer. for example.

Did you find any advice that good that you just had to follow it?
What kind of advice was that?
Did you succed in creating an army at all?
If not what made you discard your plans and give up?
Are you happy with the paintworks?
Can you post pics to show us?
How well did your new troops do agains your friends?
What army are you planning to ask advice about after this one?
Did you make that insane conversion that you just had to brag about before even getting the right parts?

Well?

I've completely assembled all the parts for a 5500+ point Space Wolves army... and not one piece has been glued together yet

Yes, I have found many suggestions and examples of other's work very helpful in motivating me and providing creative inspiration. I couldn't point to any one thing, but the whole on-line community has been great.

I hope to start work on the army over Christmas...this year's Christmas

thats just confusing, actually i tend to start armies on the slightest impulse, such as "i wonder what this catachan would look like with space marine pads, hey he looks cool, like an inquisitor, im gonna start a daemon hunter army" i have 3 or 4 of these 3 model armies lying around

That's 'cause you're a nerd and say that I'm a slacker. Not all of us have 8 free hours at home every night...

I was done all of my guys with glueing in about a week (starter set) but I still haven't finished painting them all. On the other Hand that's probably because I've started my Space Wolf Army with squad of Long Fangs. (I get the Battleforce for Christmas probably)

I'm starting a new SM army. Fluff and all, check it out in the fluff section. Pics are in the gallery, but it's not even close to being finished yet.

LOL Now that I look at it, I see your point. In this case "assembled" means all in one big box, collected together, purchased and gathered. Unfortunately no relation to actually putting together the models.

When I started my army I found that forums didn't really hep me out. I didn't want to leave a choice that would influence whether I liked 40k or not up to people I didn't really know. I ended up reading pretty much every Codex and deciding after that.

Basically, I think the choice of a starting army is too big of a decision to let yourself be influenced too much by others.

Still, forums are the best location for analyzing tactics and picking up new ideas once you've started collecting. It's great here.
