Welcome to Librarium Online!
i'm making my own Dreadnought from scratch (cardboard and cut up gundam models) and i want to know how big the bases are so i can use it in a game.
the Dread won't be exact (super good model that looks exactly like a real $50 Dread) by any means at all, but it'll look like a Dreadnought that's been rebuilt and modified a bit.
I think they are like 3 inch circumference. Also you must post pictures of what this model willl look like. And you probaly wont be allowed to play with it in GW.
I don't plan on using it in official GW games (I don't plan on playing in GW games anyway)
just my home games with friends.
it's almost done so i'll post pictures of the built model in a few days, and then i'll paint it.
As was said before you most likely won't be able to use it in GW tournies unless it's like some amazingly done geen stuff sculture miniature or you converted the crumb out of the real thing (buy a few parts of it and convert like crazy).
As for the size... Not sure about the Dred Base, but the large one is 40mm and the extra large one is 60mm. If you go the latter your opponent should not complain as that means more models in contact for them.

***sound of rustling as RoV finds ruler under pile of unbuilt marines***
***Creak of gamecase opening to reveal funky yet rarely used dread...***
Ok, I have put the ruler to the base, and can safely tell you that the base is 65mm in diameter, or 2 1/2 inches for the unenlightened.
Very creative use of parts and plastic to make your dread mate. I feel the missile box is a tad oversize, and it stands quite tall, but hey, I like it!

Codex Astartes: More a guideline than a rule...
Since a dread is a monstorous creature you only need to put it on a 40mm base. You can always put it on a larger one if you prefer, but the 40mm base is the smallest you could use.
Yes, the Dreadnought most certainly is not a Monstrous Creature.
And it comes with a 60mm diameter base.
I do apologise. My previous signature was positively turd. Let's hope this'll be better.
Aw, crap. I failed.
