Warhammer-being overlooked?

Ok, it comes to my mind that soooo many people forget about warhammers true meaning.
Warhammer surely wasnt made for soul tourneys and competitive play? i believe its for fun. its all very well, having the best paint job and getting alot of wins in tourneys, but do u people really remeber warhammer being fun? having a laugh with ure friends down GW or palying games with new guys/all elite armies?

What i think about warhammer:

spending 3/4 points on uber H/Q yes please!
using all elite point consuming lists yes
Sitting up all night thinking of a list designed to beat eldar in a tourney, and revisisng all pages of the rule book twice? NO WAY

Warhammer was originally designed for teens who had nothing to do in holidays. and as a fun game to play with friends, not a super competitive tournament veteran game.

Btw, i am a socialist, not a industrialist, torneys mean jack**** to me,id rather have fun tha anything else, so this may be a personal oppinion only, lol:rofl:

Winning is fun though.....I meen if you never won becuase you had a "fun list" then I'm sure you would not be having any fun.....at this point there is people I don't play becuase they stand no chance of beating me or visa versa becuase if its one sided all I'm doing is taking out my large Ork army and putting it away soon (if their going to win) or later (if I'm going to). It just isnt worth my time to 'play' games I can call so quickly.

You can't predict a game based on chance, you can only make educated guesses. :w00t:

I totally agree with all of you.

Making a "fun" list is great but when you lose 10 times in a row it can be a pain in the arse.

On the other hand making a list like this:

1 Blood Thirster 205

5Chaos Marines 70
5Chaos Marines 70

20 Terminators with Mark of Khorne and Lighting Claws 870
5 Terminator Aspiring Champions with Mark of Khorne, Banner of Rage and Berserker Glaive 530

1 Land Raider 250

All in all = 1995 points

Is just soooo cheesy that there is no fullfillment after a game which makes it soooo unfun!

So you just need to make a non cheesy yet winnable list.

I play the game for fun, practlically all the lists I make a fundamentally flawed in some way, but they are usually cool and/or fluffy.

I mean, a few days ago I picked a fight with a mechanised eldar list, my 13th company didn't have a chance but I felt like I won the game when my wolf lord strolled up to a wraithlord and sheered its legs off at the knees.

I badly lost but the game was fun, I enjoyed trying to win in a basically hopeless battle.

Warhammer came from Reaper(the game/not the miniature company) players that had so many minis that they wanted rules for large battles not just skirmishes. It's all about being a community of gamers and having fun, taking what they have and building on it to make something better.

1) Cypher- you are being more than pedantic. Why did you drag a 5 year old post back to life just to correct a spelling error? Was that really called for? Especially when you weren't actually adding anything to the thread. Please, while LO does not punish members for Necroposting when it adds something constructive to the conversation, it is a bit ridiculous (and more than just a little inane) to clutter the boards with spelling corrections from 5 years ago.

2) Andy Davies - you're thinking of the game 'Dark Haven Legends', which is actually the same story as the way that Warhammer got it's origins, except that GW was around before Reaper was even an idea. Warhammer began with Citadel Miniatures, who were the "Reaper" of their time, creating finely detailed miniatures for 'Dungeons and Dragons' and similar roleplaying games. Eventually they realized that if they were selling miniatures, why not create their own game system? So you had things like Heroquest come out, as well as other small scale and largely unrecognizeable games. Warhammer arose when the players' collections grew even further, and thus Citadel Miniatures created Games Workshop and Warhammer, starting the legacy that we have today.
Reaper has done this as well, having created so many miniatures that they've now released a Fantasy game, however Reaper is different in that they've always had a few small TTGs (CAV for example) in their repertoire. Also, expect to see a similar move from the fledgling company 'SodaPop Miniatures' in the next few years. They create gorgeous SciFi resin models which already have their own detailed fictional back story. They have recently released a dungeon-crawler style game using a different selection of miniatures, but I suspect that it won't be long before they start creating their own rule set for their 28mm models.
Other companies have followed suit, Dixon (very old company) has a set of rules for fighting different battles using their historical lines, as does 'Avatars of War', who ironically make miniatures for WHFB and are now creating their own Hero vs. Hero type skirmish game.

see, the pedantic level can be measured by the fact that there's an example list in here that A: has a blood thirster in a CSM army and B: has 20 terminators in a unit.

Made me quite nostalgic until I saw the mindnumbingly inane comment that brought this thread back...

Yeah sorry guys I just couldn't help myself :p but yeah anyways Heroquest what an awesome game, one day i will get round to painting those miniatures. Any ideas for the gargoyle... i was thinking of something like a bloodthirster?
