For some people GW is so much more than simply playing the game. It's about modelling, painting, customizing your own personal army, making up background fluff etc...
GW is not my main hobby, so i often have little or no time for the things mentioned above. For me the hobby really only consists of actually playing the game.
So if for the same price, you could buy models pre assembled and painted, would you?
I think i would. It would save me a lot of time doing stuff i'm not really too concerned with neways. Looking at the images gallery on this site, a lot of people have fantastic modelling skills, so i'm expecting a lot of people to say no.
I wouldn't. I enjoy painting and modelling my own models, even if I don't have time for it sometimes.
Buying pre-painted models kind of destroys half the hobby according to me. Why? Becuase half of the hobby is all the modelling, painting and making up funny names for you little soldiers. Of course, people can do whatever they want with their hard-earned cash, and I don't have anything against those who paint models and sell them/being paid to paint models as they do that on their own free will and as a job.
I actually have a model that I paid my pal to paint but that was only becuase I didn't feel 'worthy' to paint the fantastic St. Celestine-model for the WH.
So if for the same price, would I buy models pre assembled and painted. No. The reason is I love to paint the modles. I do not really know how to convert modles, and that is fine.
I think that the pre painted and assembled are good for little kids that want to paly and do not want to paint. It gets them into the games. Maybe later they aill want to learn to paint their own.
I love painting the models, even if I'm crap at it
But they would never be the same price, because GW would have to glue them, file them and get them expertly painted, as you wouldn't want to buy something that looked as though it was made by a 5 year old.
And if you do, check out eBay

depends on how they looked.
i bought alot of mageknight when it was popular and noone played 40k, especially the first gen ones look like complete ****, but they were WAY cheaper then anything from GW.
hell i dont even buy stuff from GW as it is, too overpriced to begin with. if it was assembled and painted to a good standard it might actually be worth the price tag.
i have a 2yr old so its impossible to paint anything.

I'm guessing this is a hypothetical situation.Originally Posted by PaRaSiTe_X92
In some cases, mainly the metal models, I think I would. I find it really hard to paint the metal models, they are harder to hold, most of the time are 1 block of metal and the paint doesn't seem to adhere as well to the metal.
However, I would want to make my own paint scheme and give my men different poses everynow and then. Sometimes adding ridiculous amounts of greandes to one for example, just to add character to the odd unit (Every regiment should have a greande fanatic or similar!)
If alot of people bought them pre-made, all armies would look the same.
I do enjoy gaming more, but painting and converting is still an important part of the hobby. Despite hating the metal figures.

Yeah this was kinda the response i was expecting.
I'm not sure what you would call me then. I mean i LOVE to play WHFB, i'm always thinking of new army lists, tactics etc. That is why i fell in love with the game. But i simply don't like to paint them. I first started playing around 8yrs ago, and i still haven't got a fully painted army.
When i'm not at uni i tend to play a game a day, maybe two if i'm not working, so i'm definitely commited to the cause. But if i'm sitting on my own bored, and it's the perfect chance to get a couple of models painted, i usually just pick up my guitar.

Me personally, no. But I think it would be a good idea to have cheap painted troops available for starters. Where I play it's not uncommon to see someone dump out shoe box full of partially primed mini's to play with. It really takes away from the feel of the game. I know these players have no interest in the modeling side of the game at all, if even thier basic troop selections were painted it would be a huge improvement.
I love modeling, but if I had a chance to own one of Dave Taylor's painted armies, then I would jump on it like nobodies business. I would buy well painted models with no problems at all.
Even more so, I'm not much of a sculptor so I would have absolutely no problems with buying a really well converted/sculpted model and painting it. In fact, if I had hundreds of dollars to spend, then I would buy some of those really sweet MAS converted Space Marines on eBay. That guy can use greenstuff like a master.
